Emotions

We all feel a wide range of emotions and it’s important to


understand our emotions.So, let’s start off with positive ones.
Happiness is the emotion that we all like.When we’re happy this
means that we are satisfied, we feel good and we are able to
smile.So, what makes people happy?
Now, let’s talk about excitement. When you feel excited, you
can’t wait for the future , you feel happy and optimistic about
something you are going to do .So , what makes people excited?
In the other hand, there are many negative emotions , and the
most experienced one in our society is anger .
Anger is that emotion when you feel like you can’t control
yourself and your reactions. It’s a bad emotion that could lead to
serious problems so when we get mad it should be for a limited
time and we should get rid of anger as soon as we can.So , What
makes people angry?
Word power:
Happy (adjective). Happiness (noun)
Example: The happiness is a good emotion.
I feel happy when I’m doing fun things
Excited (adjective). Excitement (noun)
Example: Excitement is my favorite emotion.
I feel excited when I think about my goals.
Angry ( adjective). Anger( noun)
Example: The anger can cause serious health problems.
I get angry easily.

Get rid of : phrasal verb ( verb +

someone leave
 You have to get rid of negative people in your
life
 I got rid of my annoying neighbor yesterday.
Get rid of something : to remove something:
 I get rid of my old clothes.
 Last month, Sara got rid of her car .
 I’m getting red of stress by practicing yoga.
Idioms of the day
Under the weather: To feel ill / not
completely well
 Sara is not coming with us , she feels under
the weather .
 What is wrong, you look under the weather.
Over the moon: To feel extremely happy or
pleased.
 My wife and I were over the moon when we
found out we were going to be grandparents.

Down in the dumps: when you feel


depressed or sad about something that has
happened.
 You look a little down in the dumps. Is
everything okay?
 My kid has been a little down in the dumps
since her best friend moved away.
get/have butterflies in your stomach:
when you have a nervous, anxious feeling in your
stomach.
 I always have butterflies in my stomach
before I give a presentation.
 Do you ever get butterflies in your stomach
before job interviews?
Grammar focus
Used to + infinitive
1/ talk about actions that we were doing
repeatedly in the past but no longer .
Example
 I used to ride my bicycle everyday when I
was child ( I’m not a child now)
 My father used to be lazy boy when he was a
kid
 In middle school,our English teacher used to
give us difficult homework .
2/ talk about facts that were true in the past but no
longer.
 I used to live in California ( I don’t live in
California now)
 I used to be fat ( I’m not fat now)
 My grandmother used to be pretty.
*The negative form
We use do in the past + not + the infinitive, use to
+ verb.
Subject + Did + not +. Use + the verb
Ex: He did not use to wear nice clothes
Isabelle did not use to be pessimistic .
*Questions:
Did + subject+ use + verb
Ex: Did she use to wear nice clothes?
Did your father use to be lazy ?
Did you use to go to go to the beach every
summer?
WH questions :
What , when , where , who , how .
WH+ did+subject + use + verb
 What did your doctor use to give you ?
 Where did you use to pass your winter
