Part 1: Personal Information Exchange (3-4 minutes)
Instructions for Examiner:
Ask the student some basic personal questions to make them feel comfortable and assess their
ability to respond naturally.
Questions:
1. School and Education
o What is the name of your school?
o How do you get to school every day?
o What is your favorite subject and why?
o Can you tell me about your school schedule?
2. Summer Vacation
o What do you usually do during your summer holiday?
o Did you travel anywhere last summer? Where?
o Do you prefer staying at home or going on a trip during the vacation?
3. Places of Interest
o Is there a place in your town/city you like to visit?
o Can you describe it?
o Why do you think people enjoy visiting it?
4. Tet Holiday
o How do you celebrate Tet holiday with your family?
o What is your favorite Tet tradition?
Part 2: Card-Based Discussion (5-6 minutes)
Instructions for Examiner:
Present the student with a set of topic cards. Each card contains a short prompt or idea related to
one of the five topics. Ask the student to choose a card, describe it, and answer follow-up questions.
Sample Cards:
1. School and Education:
o “Describe your classroom. What do you like about it?”
o Follow-up: What would you change about your school if you could?
2. Summer Vacation:
o “Talk about your dream summer vacation. Where would you go and what would you
do?”
o Follow-up: Who would you like to go with?
3. Places of Interest:
o “Describe a famous place you know. Why do people visit it?”
o Follow-up: Have you ever been there?
4. Tet Holiday:
o “What do you prepare for Tet? Why is it important?”
o Follow-up: How is Tet different from other holidays?
Grade 10 Speaking Test (IELTS Style)
Part 1: General Questions on Familiar Topics (3-4 minutes)
Instructions for Examiner:
Start with simple, familiar questions to help the student feel at ease and evaluate their ability to talk
about everyday topics.
Questions:
1. Free Time Activities
o What do you usually do in your free time?
o Do you prefer spending free time alone or with others? Why?
o Is there a new hobby you would like to try?
2. House and Home
o Can you describe the house/apartment you live in?
o What is your favorite room and why?
o Who does most of the chores in your house?
3. Travel and Holidays
o Do you like traveling? Why or why not?
o Where did you go on your last holiday?
o If you could visit any country, which one would it be?
4. Food and Cooking
o What is your favorite meal?
o Do you prefer eating at home or eating out? Why?
o Who usually cooks in your family?
Part 2: Individual Long Turn (5-6 minutes)
Instructions for Examiner:
Provide the student with a task card. They have 1 minute to prepare and should speak for 2 minutes
on the topic. Use a stopwatch to manage time.
Sample Task Cards:
1. Free Time Activities:
o Describe a free time activity you enjoy.
o You should say:
What it is.
How often you do it.
Why you enjoy it.
o And explain how this activity benefits you.
2. House and Home:
o Describe your dream house.
o You should say:
Where it would be.
What it would look like.
What features it would have.
o And explain why you would like to live there.
3. Travel and Holidays:
o Talk about a memorable trip you went on.
o You should say:
Where you went.
Who you went with.
What you did there.
o And explain why it was special.
4. Food and Cooking:
o Describe a meal you enjoy cooking or eating.
o You should say:
What it is.
How it is prepared.
When you first tried it.
o And explain why it is special to you.
Part 3: Discussion Questions (2-3 minutes)
Instructions for Examiner:
Ask the student more abstract and opinion-based questions related to the Part 2 topic.
Examples:
1. Free Time Activities
o Why do you think it is important to have free time?
o How have free time activities changed compared to the past?
o Do you think technology affects how people spend their free time?
2. House and Home
o What are the benefits of living in a house compared to an apartment?
o How does housing reflect a person’s lifestyle or culture?
o Should the government provide more affordable housing?
3. Travel and Holidays
o What are the advantages of traveling to other countries?
o How can tourism benefit a country?
o Do you think people will travel more or less in the future? Why?
4. Food and Cooking
o How important is food in bringing people together?
o Do you think young people should learn how to cook?
o How is the way people eat changing in modern society?
