Robowars PS (1)
Robowars PS (1)
AIM
Design and construct a remote-controlled robot capable of fighting a tournament
against another robot(s).
GENERAL RULES
ROBOT SPECIFICATIONS
1. The bot should fit a cube of 75cm x 75cm x 75cm at the start of the match.
2. The weight of the machine should NOT exceed 15KGs, which includes the
weight of any pneumatic source/tank and batteries. All pneumatic
tanks/sources and batteries should be on board. Only the weight of the
remote controller will NOT be counted.
3. It should be a single Robot, a cluster of bots is not allowed.
4. Robots with pneumatic or hydraulic mechanisms or electric lifters are NOT
allowed.
5. Only active weapon bots are allowed.
6. In case of any ambiguity , confusion or tie the final decision will be taken by
the organizers.
MOBILITY
All robots must have easily visible and controlled mobility in order to compete.
Methods of mobility include:
1. Rolling (wheels, tracks or the whole robot).
2. Non-wheeled: non-wheeled robots have no rolling elements in contact with the
floor and no continuous rolling or cam-operated motion in contact with the floor,
either directly or via a linkage, but are not true walkers as defined below. Motion is
"continuous" if continuous operation of the drive motor(s) produces continuous
motion of the robot. Linear-actuated legs and novel non-wheeled drive systems are
also allowed under this category.
3. Battery Type: Li-Po or LiFePO4 batteries are popular for their high energy
density and discharge rates. The voltage and capacity of the battery depend on the
motors and size of the robot.
4. Voltage Range: Usually between 12V-24V.
5. Inverted Driving: Robots are allowed to invert and fight even after inverting but
careful planned motor configuration is required.
MOBILITY METHODS THAT ARE NOT ALLOWED:
1. Flying (using airfoil, helium balloons, ornithopters, etc.) is not allowed.
2. The robots should not secure themselves on the ring surface by using suction
cups, diaphragms, sticky treads, glue or other such devices.
ROBOT CONTROL
1. The robot can be controlled through a wired or wireless remote.
2. There should be a manual emergency stop button on the controller that overrides
all functions and stops the bot.
3. Wired:
a. The robot can be controlled through a wired remote, while all power supplies
must be on the robot.
b. If a wired remote is used the team must keep in mind that the wiring will be
taken from above the arena walls.
c. The wiring should not entangle or cause problems for the opponent's robot.
d. The team is responsible if the opponent's robot damages the wired connection
during the battle.
e. The team is expected to have a minimum wire length of 15m.
4. Wireless:
a. The robot can be controlled through a wireless remote, while all power supply
must be on board.
b. There should be binding capability between transmitters and receivers. Only
remotes with such a facility will be allowed.
c. Remote control systems available in the market may also be used, while
nonstandard or self-made remote-control systems can be used only after approval
from the organizers.
d. The team should pair up the wireless remote with the machine before putting it
into the arena. No extra time will be provided for this once the bots are in the
arena. Remote Control (Manual Operation)
e. Robots must be operated remotely using a wireless control system.
f. Radio frequency (RF) control systems are the most common, typically operating
at 2.4 GHz.
BATTERY AND POWER
1. The machine must be powered electrically. Use of an IC engine in any form is not
allowed. Onboard batteries must be sealed, immobilized -electrolyte types (such as
gel cells, lithium, NiCad, NiMH, or dry cells).
2. The electric voltage between any 2 points on the machine should not exceed 36V
DC at any point in time
3. Special care should be taken to protect the onboard batteries. If the battery is
insufficiently protected, the team will be disqualified.
4. Change of battery will not be allowed during the match.
5. Only bots with onboard batteries will be allowed.
WEAPON SYSTEMS
Robots can have any kind of cutters, flippers, saws, spinning hammers etc.
The following weapons CANNOT be used:
1. Liquid projectiles (Foam, liquefied gases).
2. Any kinds of inflammable liquids, or flame-based weapons.
3. Weapons causing invisible damage (Electrical weapons, RF jamming weapons and
others).
4. Weapons causing opponents’ weapons (spinners) to entangle in them (Chains,
Ropes or loose Fabrics).
SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT
Participants have to submit an abstract (videos, designs) of the working model before the
competition by 27th October. Only the shortlisted teams will be eligible to participate.
MATCH DURATION
Matches will consist of 5 minutes of active fight time exclusive of any time-outs .
MATCH FREQUENCY
Each robot will be given 30 min to prepare for its next match.
ARENA SPECIFICATIONS
The dimensions of the arena will be: 5m x 5m x 2m (length x breadth x height) The arena
will contain some obstacles and crushers to damage the bot.
These figures parameters are subject to change
JUDGING CRITERIA
1. A robot is declared victorious if its opponent is immobilized.
2. A robot that is deemed unsafe by the judges after the match has begun will be
disqualified. The match will be immediately halted and the opponent will be
awarded a win.
3. If a robot is thrown out of the arena the match will be stopped immediately, and
the robot inside the arena will automatically be declared as the winner.
4. Robots cannot win by pinning or lifting their opponents. Organizers will allow
pinning or lifting for a maximum of 20 seconds per pin/lift then the attacker robot
will be instructed to release the opponent.
5. Points will be given on the basis of aggression, damage and control.
a. Aggression : Aggression is judged by the frequency, severity, boldness and
effectiveness of attacks deliberately initiated by the robot against its opponent. If a
robot appears to have accidentally attacked an opponent, that act will not be
considered when judging for aggression.
b.Control : Control is judged in terms of the ability to attack an opponent at its
weakest point, using weapons in the most effective way, and minimizing the
damage caused by the opponent.
c. Damage : Through deliberate action, a robot either directly or indirectly reduces
the functionality, effectiveness or defensibility of an opponent. All the decisions
taken by the judge will be final and binding to all. Any queries afterwards will not be
entertained.
