APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTI

UCDC - SUMMER QUARTER 2025
1. Upload electronic copies of the following documents in t
he "Document Uploads" section of this application:
1. Resume/CV: Revised resume. You must have your resu
me reviewed by a Division of Career Pathways staff member during i
n person drop in advising or a virtual career counseling appointmen
t (schedule through Handshake). Revise your resume according to th
e feedback you receive and then submit the revised resume with yo
ur application.
2. Essay:
Essay Response - 1-2 page, double-spaced essay
response with Name and Student ID at the top right. In
your essay, please respond to these questions: Why do
you want to participate in UCDC? What kinds of
internships interest you and how will this experience help
you achieve your career and academic goals? Be specific
and include names of some of the internship sites you are
considering.The UCI Center for Excellence in Writing &
Communication can help you develop and revise your
UCDC essay response.

4. Other: An endorsement is required to complete your UCD
C application. Please see below for specific instructions to share with
your endorser depending on if they are UCI faculty/staff or not.UCI f
aculty and staff endorsers: Send an email to civicengagement@u
ci.edu with the student’s name and email and indicate that you’re e
ndorsing them for the UCDC program. Please note, you may be cont
acted by program staff if there are additional questions about the st
udent applicant.Non-UCI endorsers: Complete this Google Form to
complete your endorsement. Please note, you may be contacted by
program staff if there are additional questions about the student app
licant.
5. Cover letter:
Cover Letter. For your cover letter, find an actual
internship on Handshake (or other site) and write your
cover letter as if you’re applying to that internship (do
not address it to UCDC). You must have your cover letter
reviewed by a Division of Career Pathways staff member
during drop-in advising or a career counseling
appointment. Revise your cover letter according to the
feedback you receive and then submit the revised cover
letter with your application. Here are some sample cover
letters to help you get started.

CAMPUS-SPECIFIC APPLICATION INSTRUCTION

The UCDC Internship Program is an internship program based in
Washington, D.C., sponsored by UCI’s Division of Undergraduate
Education. Each year the program selects outstanding UCI
undergraduate students for internships based in Washington, D.C.
during the fall, winter, spring, and summer terms. It is an ideal
vantage point for students to examine behind-the-scenes activities
that shape and implement our nation’s future course. During the
academic year, participants remain full-time UCI students and take
1-2 classes taught by UCDC faculty; Financial Aid applies and
scholarships are available for qualified students. During the
summer, courses are not required.
Our goal is to prepare each student both professionally and
personally for the internship experience in Washington,
D.C. Students admitted into UCDC work closely with advisors in
developing a competitive portfolio. As part of the UCDC program,
you will be trained to secure your own internship, but you will not be
placed in an internship.
*UCDC is available to all degree-seeking UCI students regardless of
immigration status. International Students should consult with the
International Center and their School's Academic Counseling Office
prior to applying to UCDC to confirm eligibility. Undocumented
students may wish to seek the counsel and advice of the UCI Dream
Center.
