3. Stomata of desert plants remain closed during the day. Explain how and when
they take up CO2 to perform photosynthesis?

4. Distinguish between the acquired traits and the inherited traits in tabular
form, giving one example for each.
5. An object is placed at a distance of 10 cm from a convex mirror of focal
length 15 cm. Find the position and nature of the image.
6. Draw a ray diagram showing the dispersion through a prism when a narrow
beam of white light is incident on one of its refracting surfaces. Also indicate

the order of the colours of the spectrum obtained.
7. A resistance of 40 ohms and one of 60 ohms are arranged in series across
220 volt supply. Find the heat in joules produced by this combination of
resistances in half a minute.
8. State the rule to determine the direction of a,
i. Magnetic field produced around a straight conductor-carrying current.
ii. Force experienced by a current-carrying straight conductor placed in
a magnetic field which is perpendicular to it, and,
iii. Current induced in a coil due to its rotation in a magnetic field.
9. A pea plant with purple flowers were crossed with white flowers producing 40
plants with only purple flowers. On selfing, these plants produced 470 plants
with purple flowers and 162 with white flowers. What genetic mechanism
account for these results.

1. Give one example each of a chemical reaction characterised by:

2. a. Complete and balance the following chemical equations:

b. An element ‘X’ displaces iron from the aqueous solution of iron


sulphate. List your observations if the element ‘X’ is treated with the
aqueous solutions of copper sulphate, zinc sulphate and silver nitrate.
Based on the observations arrange X, Zn, Cu and Ag in increasing
order of their reactivities.
3. Distinguish between aquatic and terrestrial respiration.
4. What are the different types of tropisms? Define each type of tropism. Write
the name of stimulus in each case.
5. Write the functions of the following in human female reproductive system:
Ovary, oviduct, uterus. How does the embryo get nourishment inside the
mother's body? Explain in brief.
6. List the sign conventions that are followed in case of refraction of light
through spherical lenses. Draw a diagram and apply these conventions in
determining the nature and focal length of a spherical lens which forms three
times magnified real image of an object placed 16cm from the lens.
7. a. State the laws of refraction of light. Give an expression to relate the
absolute refractive index of a medium with speed of light in vacuum.
b. The refractive indices of water and glass with respect to air are 4/3
and 3/2 respectively. If the speed of light in glass is 8
2 × 10 ms

, find
the speed of light in (i) air, (ii) water.
8. Find out the following in the electric circuit given in Figure.

a. Effective resistance of two 8Ω resistors in the combination.


b. Current flowing through 4Ω resistor.
c. Potential difference across 4Ω resistance.
d. Power dissipated in 4Ω resistor.
e. Difference in ammeter readings, if any.
