Introduction
The Final Year Project revolves around addressing the challenges posed by global warming
and its impact on precipitation patterns in Tunisia. As precipitation significantly influences
various sectors such as agriculture, construction, and energy production, accurate
forecasting becomes imperative. This document outlines the tasks and methodologies I will
undertake to achieve the project objectives.

Objectives
1. To explore and analyze precipitation data from previous years.
2. To develop and implement machine learning models for precipitation forecasting.
3. To compare the performance of various machine learning algorithms for
precipitation prediction.
4. To integrate a flood prediction and alert system for rivers.
5. To create a model for predicting rain in major cities based on weather data.
6. To design an interactive dashboard for visualizing and analyzing meteorological
data.

Tasks and Methodologies

I. Data Collection and Preprocessing

● Acquire historical precipitation data spanning over a decade from reliable

sources such as meteorological agencies, Kaggle … etc
● Preprocess the data to handle missing values, outliers, and inconsistencies.
● Explore and visualize the data to gain insights into precipitation patterns and
trends.
2

II. Machine Learning Model Development

● Select and implement various machine learning algorithms suitable for

precipitation forecasting, including logistic regression, support vector
classification, random forest, CatBoost, and XGBoost.
● Split the dataset into training and testing sets for model evaluation.
● Train the models using the training data and optimize hyperparameters to
improve performance.

III. Comparative Analysis

● Compare the performance of different machine learning algorithms based on

their predictive accuracy and computational efficiency.
● Identify the most effective algorithm for precipitation forecasting based on
the experimental results.

IV. Integration of Flood Prediction and Alert System

● Develop a flood prediction model using relevant hydrological and

meteorological data.
● Integrate the flood prediction model with the precipitation forecasting
system to provide comprehensive risk management solutions.

V. City-specific Rain Prediction Model

● Collect weather data specific to major cities, including factors such as

temperature, humidity, and wind speed.
● Train machine learning models to predict rain in major cities for the following
day based on weather conditions.
3

VI. Development of Interactive Dashboard

● Design and implement visualizations to represent meteorological data

effectively.
● Create custom reports and interactive features to facilitate data analysis and
decision-making.

VII. Web Development

● Select a web development framework for building the project website.

● Integrate the interactive dashboard and other features into the website for
easy access by users.
● Implement real-time updates and alerts functionality to provide timely
information to users.

Conclusion

The Final Year Project aims to contribute to the field of meteorology by enhancing
precipitation forecasting accuracy and providing comprehensive climate risk management
solutions. By implementing advanced machine learning techniques and integrating
predictive models with interactive visualization tools, the project seeks to empower
stakeholders with valuable insights for decision-making and disaster preparedness.
