Initiate the contact:

Success we must be the aggressor in the contact.

Anticipation, Discipline and vision to time the snap of ball,
with explosive knock back right way.
If you do this it puts pressure on the offensive linemen to
react to your movement.
Every play we attack, not the other way around.

SUCCESS: First off the ball, disruptive, bursting through

• Attract Attention from as many offensive linemen. Why?
No LB can make a play if the offensive linemen gets to
the second level.
• Ultimate most feared: playing with all these traits,
requiring attention from blockers every play.

3. Making a play:

How to defeat the double team block

SUCCESS:

Push technique

Step 1: Attack the primary blocker

300 or 600?

Step 2: Press on pressure

When you feel pressure from the adjacent
lineman press through the primary blocker's
shoulder and fight pressure with pressure.
Step 3: Throw off when pressure leaves
Throw blocker away as the RB runs one
direction and show presence in your gap so the
RB doesn’t escape through it.

Square Technique
The objective of this technique is to stay square
and let the adjacent blocker push you laterally
before popping back in your gap.

Step 1: Attack the primary blocker

Step 2: Survive the collision by staying square.
Let the adjacent blocker push you laterally to
where he can no longer contact you. This will
give him the illusion that he's done his job, but
nothing could be further from the truth.
Step 3: Recapture your gap
Once the primary blocker has gone up to the
second level, now pop back in your gap and
make the play
When to use
Offensive Lineman doesn't stay on the double
team for long and instead he is working to the
LB.
Drills to improve
Practice attacking the blocker, surviving the
collision & popping back into your gap.

3-STEP

1. Threaten the blocker: Everything happens faster inside. All you

need is one step to threaten the blocker and get him to shoot his
hands.
2. Chop the wrist: Always make sure to chop the blocker's wrist. It's
the weakest point on a blockers arm and will give you control of
their arm.
3. Jump laterally: Once you've chopped now jump laterally off your
first step. The jump makes you a moving target for the blocker.
4. Grab and flip: Now grab the back of the blocker's shoulder pads
and point your toe to the QB. This will help flip your hips and
prevent the blocker from recovering.
5. Tight swim Quickly swim to complete the rush. Keep the swim as
close to the blocker as possible so he doesn't have space to
recover.

• Use against aggressive blockers who punch with low hands
