INTRODUCTION
Construction equipment includes machines and
tools used in building and infrastructure
projects.
These machines range from simple tools to heavy
machinery like excavators, bulldozers, and
cranes. They help with tasks such as excavation,
lifting, material handling, and compaction.
Modern construction equipment is designed to
improve productivity, safety, and efficiency on
construction sites.
Proper use of these tools can significantly speed
up the construction process and reduce labor
costs.
PURPOSE
Earthmoving: Equipment like excavators, bulldozers, and
loaders remove, transport, or level soil and debris.
Material Handling: Cranes, forklifts, and telehandlers lift
and move heavy materials at construction sites.
Excavation and Trenching: Machines like backhoes and
trenchers dig foundations, trenches, and tunnels.
PURPOSE
Road Construction: Pavers, compactors, and graders help build roads by
laying and leveling asphalt or concrete.
Concrete Work: Mixers, pumps, and vibrators ensure efficient mixing,
pouring, and curing of concrete.
Demolition: Wrecking balls, hydraulic breakers, and crushers tear down
existing structures for redevelopment.

1.Earth moving equipment
The equipment which perform excavation, digging large quantities of
earth moving to distances, placing, compacting, levelling, dozing, grading,
hauling etc called Earth moving equipment
CLASSIFICATION:
1.Excavating equipment
2.Excavating and earth moving equipment
TYPES OF EARTH
EXCAVATION EQUIPMENTS
POWER SHOVEL
BACK HOE
DRAG LINE
CLAM SHELL
Power showel
Long lasting
Excavate all types of earth except
hard rock
Types: 1.Wheel mounted
2.crawl mounted
BACK HOE
It is used to excavate below the surface of equipment-it caves into the
ground
DRAG LINE
Drag lines are useful for digging below its track level and handling
softer materials.
CLAM SHELL
A clamshell machine in construction is a bucket attachment for a crane that is
used for digging and handling materials. It has two hinged jaws that open and
close like a clam shell.

2.Pumping and Dewatering
Dewatering and pumping equipment are used
in construction to remove water from sites,
ensuring a dry and stable work area.
Dewatering pumps help control groundwater,
prevent flooding, and create safe excavation
spaces.
These pumps can handle various water
sources, including rainwater, groundwater,
and river water near the site.
Dewatering is crucial for projects like
foundations, basements, and underground
installations. Effective use of these systems
helps maintain site safety and prevents
damage to structures during construction.
3.Hoisting
Hoisting equipment is essential in construction for safely
lifting and moving heavy materials. Common types include
cranes, hoists, and lifts, each designed for specific tasks and
loads.
Cranes, such as tower and mobile cranes, provide versatility
for various lifting heights and distances.
Hoists, often used for vertical transportation, are crucial for
moving materials within buildings under construction.
Proper selection, maintenance, and operator training are
vital to ensure safety and efficiency on construction sites.

4.Hauling
Hauling refers to the process of transporting materials, equipment, and debris to
and from a construction site. This is a critical aspect of construction logistics and
involves various types of vehicles and equipment, such as:
Dump Trucks: Used for transporting loose materials like sand, gravel, and
demolition waste.
Flatbed Trucks: Ideal for carrying large, heavy items such as steel beams, lumber,
and machinery.

Concrete Mixers: Transport ready-mix concrete from the plant to
the construction site. They are even called as Transit Mixers.

Cranes and Forklifts: Used for moving heavy materials and equipment
within the construction site.
Hauling ensures that materials are delivered to the site on time, which is
crucial for maintaining the project schedule and efficiency. Proper
planning and coordination are essential to minimize delays and reduce
costs associated with material transportation.
5.Conveying
Conveying refers to the process of transporting materials from one
location to another within a facility or construction site. This is
typically done using various types of mechanical handling equipment
known as conveying systems. These systems can include:
Belt Conveyors: Used for transporting materials horizontally or at an
incline.

Bucket Elevators: Ideal for vertical transportation of bulk materials.
Screw Conveyors: Used for moving granular or liquid materials.

Pneumatic Systems: Utilize air pressure to move materials through pipes.

These systems help in efficiently moving materials, reducing manual labor,
and increasing productivity on construction sites
