VI QUESTION WORDS
Los pronombres interrogativos (o 'question words') son partículas que utilizamos en
preguntas para solicitar información sobre un lugar, persona, objeto, etc.
¿Dónde está el coche?
Utilizamos estas partículas dependiendo de si queremos preguntar por personas,
cosas, lugares, tiempos, razones, maneras, cantidad o la edad.
► WHO: Para preguntar por una persona vamos a utilizar la partícula ‘who’.
¿Quién es esa mujer?
Who is that woman?
► WHAT: Para preguntar por una cosa o idea vamos a utilizar la partícula
interrogativa ‘what’.
¿Cuál es su nombre?
What is his name?
► WHICH: Para preguntar por una cosa también podemos utilizar la partícula
interrogativa ‘which’.
¿Qué revista es tuya?
Which magazine is yours?
* Normalmente utilizamos esta partícula cuando hablamos de varias posibilidades.
► WHEN: Para preguntar por el tiempo vamos a utilizar la partícula ‘when’.
¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?
When is your birthday?
► WHERE: Para preguntar por un lugar vamos a utilizar la partícula ‘where’.
¿Dónde está el parque?
Where is the park?
► WHY: Para preguntar por una razón vamos a utilizar la partícula ‘why’.
¿Por qué está roto?

* Para responder necesitamos la partícula ‘because’.
► HOW: Para preguntar por la manera vamos a utilizar la partícula ‘how’.
¿Cómo estás?

* También se puede utilizar para preguntar la edad (I.e. How old are you?).
► HOW MUCH / HOW MANY: Para preguntar por la cantidad vamos a utilizar la
partícula ‘how much’ o 'how many'.

¿Cuántos coches hay?
How many cars are there?
* Utilizamos 'how much' para preguntar por cosas incontables y 'how many' para
preguntar por contables.
► WHOSE: La partícula interrogativa 'whose' se utiliza para indicar posesión.

VII ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY
We use some adverbs to describe how frequently we do an activity.
These are called adverbs of frequency and include:

The Position of the Adverb in a Sentence
An adverb of frequency goes before a main verb (except with To Be).
Subject + adverb + main verb
I always remember to do my homework.
He normally gets good marks in exams.
An adverb of frequency goes after the verb To Be.
Subject + to be + adverb
They are never pleased to see me.
She isn't usually bad tempered.
When we use an auxiliary verb (have, will, must, might, could, would, can, etc.), the
adverb is placed between the auxiliary and the main verb. This is also true for to be.
Subject + auxiliary + adverb + main verb
She can sometimes beat me in a race.
I would hardly ever be unkind to someone.
They might never see each other again.
They could occasionally be heard laughing.
