It’s twenty years since Just Flight published the first instalment in the legendary Traffic series. Now Traffic Global,
the latest and greatest edition, is ready to populate the virtual skies, make your flight environment ‘as busy as it
gets’ and once again set the bar for AI (Artificial Intelligence) traffic expansions.
Traffic Global has been designed for the latest incarnations of Prepar3D and Flight Simulator X. It features
thousands of individual commercial airline AI aircraft that have been built from the ground up to provide
unprecedented levels of realism and immersion.
Using real-world flight plan data to generate a realistic airport environment, these aircraft can be seen in the air,
landing, taxiing, parking and taking off at airports both large and small around the world.
The included aircraft range from small single-engined private aircraft such as the C152 right up to the Airbus
A380, one of the world’s largest airliners. The whole aviation spectrum is well represented, with a huge selection
of commercial jet airliners, regional jets, regional turboprops, business aircraft and general aviation planes.
You can install this Traffic Global software as often as you like on the same computer system.

Overview
Traffic Global only needs to be installed once, as it manages AI traffic for all the flight simulators you wish to use
it in.
The library of AI aircraft – the largest element of the Traffic Global installation – is installed in a single location
and shared by all the of the flight simulators you configure to use Traffic Global. By default, this location is in
Documents\TrafficGlobal, but the installer will give you the option to install to a custom location.
The flight plan database is stored in Excel files and can therefore be adjusted manually, although this is not
recommended in case any changes are made that the Traffic Global app cannot recognise. Also, it is important
not to leave any documents open in other programs when using Traffic Global as it will prevent it from being able
to access them.
No selections are necessary. Click the aircraft icon at the bottom of the screen to progress…
The following screen will display the paths that it has automatically retrieved from your PC’s registry:
Types of AI traffic
Traffic Global generates four different types of AI traffic:
For example, the flight plan in the image below would be flown as follows:
An EasyJet A320 would depart Edinburgh at 9:45am (all shown departure times are local times) heading for
Berlin. The flight would take approximately two hours and ten minutes. The aircraft would be turned around in
one to two hours and then fly the return leg back to Edinburgh.
This flight plan would then be repeated over the course of the rest of the day.
Cargo Traffic
Cargo flights are dynamically generated and will fly multi-leg flights all over the globe.
GA Traffic
Traffic Global includes a dedicated hangar of General Aviation models and will generate traffic in all airports that
can accommodate GA traffic. Aircraft will fly a mixture of circuits, direct flights and multi-leg sightseeing tours.
Highlighting any of the listed flights will populate the box to the right of the flight plan screen. Listed here will be
details such as the aircraft, airline, departure time, departure and arrival airports, distance etc.
To search for a specific flight in the database, press [Ctrl]-[F] to open a search box. Search terms will be applied
across all database fields, so you can search for a particular aircraft, airline, flight number, flight time or any of
the other fields displayed in the Default Database tab.
You can also access other options, such as sorting the database alphabetically, by right-clicking at the top of any
of the database columns.
The Selected Flight Plan group to the left of the screen contains the original details of the flight plan you have
selected.
Use the drop-down and text input boxes in the Configure New Flight Plan section to make your alterations to the
flight plan.
To aid in looking up the correct ICAO code for the airport you are looking for, you can right-click in the Airport
field and select the Lookup Airport option.
This pop-up window will allow you to search for an airport by name, country or the IATA code. Highlight the
airport you are looking for and press the Insert Airport button to assign it to the flight plan.
My AI Flights
This button will open and display the database containing the custom user flight plans. This database has the
same search and sorting options as the Traffic Global Flight Plans database described above.
These options will repeat the flight plan every X hours as appropriate. Please note the following limitations with
these selections:
If the TWO_HOURS option is selected, the start time for the flight will need to be within 00:00 and 01:59; if the
FOUR_HOURS option is selected, between 00:00 and 03:59 and so on.
ONE_DAY – this option will repeat the flight once a day, every day, at the time you have set.
ONE_WEEK – this option will only fly the flight plan you have created on the particular days you have specified.
Days – this control becomes enabled if you have selected the ONE_WEEK option above. Tick the boxes of the
days of the week on which you wish the aircraft to fly.
Use the Legs section to first assign your departure details, and then add the details of any subsequent legs. You
will need a minimum of one leg for the flight to be valid, and you can have a maximum of seven different legs to
the flight plan. As all flight plans for P3D and FSX are circular (i.e. A to B, then back to A), the final destination will
always be your departure point and this is inserted automatically by the editor.
Aircraft Explorer
The Aircraft Explorer can be used to browse the Traffic Global fleet, view the aircraft parameters used by Traffic
Global when compiling flight plans and also to visually inspect the aircraft livery textures.
To make changes, click the field you wish to modify and the text input window will activate.
To aid searching for a particular aircraft, a search option can be activated by pressing [Ctrl]-[F].
Once you have completed your changes, commit them to the database by pressing the Save Changes button at
the bottom of the window.
This section does not describe the techniques and processes required to create your own liveries. An excellent
guide to this can be found on fsxinsider.com.
The layered .psd paint kits for the Traffic Global aircraft can be downloaded from the Traffic Global Support page.
The rest of these instructions assume that you have already created your repaint and a texture.x folder for it in
the correct location.
Select livery
This will display a list of all the liveries found in the selected aircraft folder. Click on the livery you wish to import
to select it.
It also allows you to create your own fictional carrier or add one which is not currently in the database.
To compile our flight databases and transfer them to the selected simulator, we will be using the options down
the left-hand side of the window.
Database selection
Use this window to select whether you wish to compile the My AI Flights and/or Traffic Global Flight Plan
databases.
GA Traffic
Include GA Traffic – check or uncheck this option depending on whether you wish to include GA flights in the
compile.
Regenerate GA Aircraft List – uncheck this option if you do not need the compiler to rescan your GA aircraft
details.
Options
Use Excludes List – check or uncheck this option depending on whether you wish to use the Airliner Exclusions
list to remove listed airlines from the compile.
Re-scan airport data – for Traffic Global to recognise the modified airport layouts in third party scenery, the
program builds a database of all the airports being used by the simulator. This option determines whether Traffic
Global rebuilds this database for the selected simulator to take any scenery changes you may have made
(adding custom airports etc). This step can be the longest part of the compile, so if you are sure that no changes
have been made to the airport scenery in your simulator, you can untick this option and use the previously
generated version.
Include Alternate Liveries – some airlines in the Traffic Global fleet have more than one version of an airline’s
livery. This option determines whether the sim selects one of the other available liveries when compiling or sticks
to the default livery option.
Error Correction – the database of flights included with Traffic Global contains lots of flights that can be directly
matched with liveries and aircraft in the traffic fleet. However, also included in the database are flight plans that
do not have a direct match in the fleet and therefore various options are available for applying error checking and
livery/aircraft substitution to increase the amount of flight plans being generated.
0
• Minimal error corrections.
• Unmatched aircraft codes will be substituted for the same aircraft type from the same carrier.

Q: Parking spaces at the airports are not laid out the same as the real-world layouts. Some gates are
missing. What’s the reason?
A: Default P3D and FSX airports usually have a very tight and narrow layout. It is not always possible to place
parking stands at their real-world positions. Using add-on sceneries can greatly improve this situation.
Q: Why are aircraft not parking at their correct locations? For example, airline XY is parking at a gate where
it would not be parking in the real world.
A: P3D and FSX allow you to assign certain gates to certain airlines and vice versa. We have modified 50
international airports with gate assignments that are as accurate as possible. However, in the event of an airport
getting overloaded with traffic, Traffic Global will assign gates according to free spaces, so newly arriving aircraft
might park in any free parking area. You can adjust gate assignments according to your own preferences using tools
such as AFX or the free Aircraft Design Editor tool. You’ll find more information about these on FS-related websites.
Q: I have installed some new airport scenery but Traffic Global doesn’t appear to be utilising the new airport
layouts and parking. Why is this?
A: If you have installed new scenery you will need to recompile the traffic database with the Re-Scan Airport Data
box selected so Traffic Global can incorporate the new airport features.
Q: I sometimes see lots of aircraft parking at an airport but none taxiing, taking off or landing. What’s the
reason?
A: When starting a flight at an airport or when rebuilding the scenery database (e.g. after changing the day or time),
P3D/FSX builds a start-up situation of AI traffic at this airport, with all the aircraft parking and the approaching
aircraft some miles out. If you select the relevant ground frequency you will initially hear aircraft asking for
clearances (depending on the size of the airport and current activity) and a few minutes later you’ll see the first
aircraft coming in. When flying to an airport, however, the situation gets constantly rebuilt so you should see and
hear full traffic in the air and on the ground.
Q: I have installed Traffic Global and completed the Setup Wizard, but I am not seeing any AI aircraft traffic in
my simulator.
A: If you have previously installed an older AI traffic program (or airport that features AI traffic) which uses FS2004
format files, FS can only support one of these files and all other third party traffic files will be disabled. Included
in Traffic Global is a feature that will allow you to search your flight sim directory to look for .bgl files that may be
causing this issue, and to provide you with options for temporarily disabling them.
Please follow these steps:
Ensure your simulator isn’t running and then open Traffic Global and go to the Diagnostics section.
In the Legacy BGL Check section, select the simulator you wish to scan.
Press the Begin Scan button (the Deep Scan option will scan more places but will take longer).
The scan will now begin and after a few moments the results will appear and any conflicting .bgl files will be listed in
the ‘Incompatible BGLs’ list.
Use the options below to disable these files.
Restart your flight simulator and you should now see the Traffic Global AI traffic.
