CHAPTER II

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Deliberation for Graduating Students


After the filing of application for graduation, a deliberation is held as per schedule to
confirm the official list of candidates for graduation. This is being attended by the Vice President
for Academics, Registrar, all the Deans and faculty members. The Records Custodians per
college will read aloud the list of candidates. The Dean and faculty members of the college where
the candidate belongs shall confirm or question with valid reason/s the application of any
candidate. The candidate whose application is in question is given one (1) day after the
deliberation to work for his/her deficiency/ies otherwise his/her name will not be included in the
final list of graduating students.

2.1. Policies on Academic and Non-Academic Awards

Right after the Deliberation of Graduating Students, another Deliberation shall be made to
determine Honor Graduates. This is done by the Committee on Honors and Awards using the
guidelines below:

2.1.1. Guidelines to Determine Honor Graduates:

a. The following honors are awarded for graduating students who have the required
residency, who have applied for honors, and whose weighted average computed on the
basis of units shall be as follows:

98.0%-100.0% Summa Cum Laude


95.0%-97.9% Magna Cum Laude
91.0%-94.9% Cum Laude

b. Any student who obtains a grade lower than 85% in any course (subject) and program,
whether the grade was obtained in the University or elsewhere shall be disqualified to
graduate with Honors.
c. A ‘dropped’ course except NSTP, which is in the same category as a “failed” course
(subject), disqualifies a student from receiving honors.
d. Only resident credits shall be included in the computation of the final averages of students
who are candidates for graduation with honors.
e. At least 75% of the total number of academic units required for graduation must have been
completed by the candidate in the University.
f. Candidates for graduation must have taken during each semester no less than 15 units of
credits or the normal load prescribed in the curriculum in cases when such normal load is
less than 15 units of credits.
g. Students who have met the grade requirements for any of the latin honors shall undergo
and pass the REVALIDA which shall compose of an oral and written examination to be
administered by the Committee on Awards. Failure to pass the revalida shall disqualify the
student from being a recipient of the latin honor he/she has applied for. However, he/she
shall still be given academic distinction if he/she incurs the highest grade in his/her
respective college or school.

2.1.2. Student Achiever Awards

Each school year, UCV recognizes Student Achiever/s from among the graduating
students. The non-academic awards given are:
1. Student Leader of the Year
2. Orator of the Year
3. Extemporaneous Speaker (English/Filipino) of the Year
4. Singer of the Year
5. Dancer of the Year
6. Campus Writer of the Year
7. Student Assistant of the Year
8. Athlete of the Year
9. Dance Artist of the Year
10. Cultural Artist of the Year
11. Student Community Service Awardee of the Year
12. Student Researcher of the Year

All schools and colleges may have their own list of student awards for each school year distinct
from the Student Achiever Awards. The selection of which is based on guidelines set by the Dean
and the instructors of the said school or college regardless of year level.
All student achievers must have no incomplete grade, unofficially dropped course (subject),
failing grade, and a grade lower than 80% and 85% for the student leader award. A graduating
student who has enrolled less than the minimum requirement of 15 units is still qualified for the
special awards.

2.1.3. Guidelines for the Selection of Student Achiever Awards

1. Student Leader Awards


a. Must be of unquestionable character, honest, and with integrity as attested by his/her
Dean
b. Must be an active school/college/SSB officer for two years as attested by his/her Dean
and the Director of Student Affairs
c. Must have an academic load of not less than 21 units for two consecutive semesters
of the school year and must have no grade lower than 85% as attested by the Registrar

2. Orator of the Year, Extemporaneous Speaker of the Year, Debater of the Year, Singer of
the Year

a. Must have won first place, as declared by the Board of Judges, in an inter-college
contest in the University for the current school year.
b. Must have represented the University in a contest outside and won a major place,
should there have been no contest held in the University during the current year.
3. Campus Writer of the Year

a. Must be recommended by the Norluzonian Adviser and approved by members of the


Committee on Awards
b. Must be of unquestionable character, honest, and with integrity, as attested by his/her
Dean
c. Must be an active Norluzonian Staff for at least 2 years

4. Student Assistant of the Year


a. Must be of unquestionable character, honest, and with integrity, as attested by his/her
Dean and his/her direct supervisor.
b. Must have been a student assistant for more than 3 semesters with at least a very
satisfactory performance rating.
c. Must have no grade lower than 80%

5. Athlete of the Year


a. Must be of unquestionable character, honest, and with integrity, as attested by his/her
Dean and his/her direct supervisor
b. Must be recommended by the Sports Director, and approved by the Committee on
Awards
c. Must have won the highest award in a national athletic competition
d. Must have no grade lower than 80%

6. Dance Artist of the Year


a. Must be of unquestionable character, honest, and with integrity, as attested by his/her
Dean
b. Must be recommended by the Dance Specialist and Music Master, and approved by
the Committee on Awards
c. Must have no grade lower than 80%

7. Student Researcher of the Year


a. Must be of unquestionable character, honest, and with integrity, as attested by his/her
Dean
b. Must have conducted an individual / group research
c. Must have successfully defended his/her/their research in a proper forum
d. Must have no grade lower than 80% and at least a grade of 90% in the final oral
defense.

8. Student Community Service Awardee of the Year


a. Must be recommended by the College Community Extension Coordinator through the
Director of the Office of Community Extension (OCE) and approved by the Committee
on Awards
b. Must be of unquestionable character, honest, and with integrity, as attested by his/her
Dean
c. Must show unwavering commitment to community service in the entire duration of
his/her stay in the University
d. Must have no grade lower than 80%
