INTRODUCTION:

Barishpur is a small town-like model in Vijayapura, Karnataka that

demonstrates water conservation models. The model was created to
highlight the importance of water conservation and the challenges people
face in collecting water
Here are some details about Barishpur:
• Purpose: The model was created to educate people about the
importance of water conservation and the challenges people face in
collecting water.
• Models: The model includes models such as an inverted umbrella,
women collecting rainwater, and how rooftops can be used to store
rainwater.
• Inauguration: The model was inaugurated in 2005 at a cost of ₹7
lakh.
• Visitors: Schools bring students to Barishpur to learn about water
conservation.
A ‘town’ depicting water conservation models:

A model of the ancient underground water supply system of the Adil

Shahi era is among the many eye-catching displays on water
conservation set up at ‘Barishpur’ (rain town) in Vijayapura city.

Developed on about two acres near Kendriya Vidyalaya in the city,

Barishpur was conceptualised and designed by Nirmiti Kendra, a
government-funded agency. The beautiful ‘town’ has many life-size
models depicting the importance of conserving rainwater, mainly in
parched districts such as Vijayapura, which faces drought almost every
alternate year.

Among the models are an inverted umbrella, which sends the message of
storing water, and women collecting rainwater in sheets and filling up a
tank with it. The models also depict the people’s struggle to fetch water
and a picture of drought. Some models display how rooftops can be used
to channelise rainwater and store it in underground tanks.

“Conserving water has become an important aspect over the world as

many countries are facing acute water scarcity. Considering this, we
wanted to create a model that would not only highlight the problems
people face in collecting water, but also the importance of conserving
rainwater, which is a major source of water in the world,” said G. N.
Malaji, planning director of Nirmiti Kendra. He said that after
consultation, a decision was taken to get a small town-like model
prepared where all these aspects could be presented.

Water conservation is not only related to everyone's living environment,

but also has the potential to push the growth of economic. Probe - Water
Conservation and Sustainability is an international Open Access journal
aiming to communicate state-of-the-art technologies and methods on
water conservation and sustainability.
It covers all aspects of Water Conservation and Sustainability, including
implementation of water functional regionalization and protection of
water source, optimal allocation of water resources, ecosystem
protection and restoration ,groundwater resources protection ,water
treatment technology and water environment treatment technology, water
resources protection management and economic and social development
study on the interactive index system.

What is Water Conservation?

Water Conservation is the practice of efficiently preserving, controlling
and managing water resources.Water conservation has become essential
in every part of the world, even in regions where water appears to be
enough. It is the most practical and environment-friendly approach to
lessen our need for water. Likewise, using less water puts less weight on
our sewage treatment facilities, which use ample energy for heating
water.

Main reasons to conserve water:

• Conserving water saves energy. Energy is important to filter, heat,

and pump water to your home, so lessening your water use likewise

decreases your carbon traces.

• Consuming less water keeps more in our environments and aids

with keeping wetland habitats best for creatures like otters, water voles,

herons, and fish. This is particularly significant during dry season

periods.
The Why and How of Water
Conservation:
Using the limited water supply wisely and caring for it properly are just
a few ofthe many keys to conserving water. Remember that we have
limited availability of water supply. This means that we do not have an
endless amount of water. Remember that we must understand and learn
more about water conservation. Even so, find ways to help keep the
resources pure and safe for the coming generations.

Water conservation goals include:

Sustainability:
Ensuring that the amount of fresh water taken from an
ecosystem doesn't exceed the rate at which it's naturally
replenished.

Energy conservation:
Reducing the amount of energy used to pump,
deliver, and treat wastewater .

Habitat conservation:
Reducing human water use to preserve freshwater
habitats for wildlife and migrating waterflow.

Economic growth:
Improving water infrastructure can reduce water
consumption, which can lead to economic growth.

Rainwater harvesting (RWH):

Rain water harvesting is the practice of collecting and storing rainwater
for reuse instead of allowing it to run off. It is a sustainable way to
conserve water and reduce water bills. RWH can be used for a variety of
purposes, including:

Watering: For gardens, livestock, irrigation, and domestic use

Heating: For domestic heating

Groundwater recharge: To restore groundwater levels

Flood prevention: To reduce stormwater flow and prevent urban flooding

Soil erosion reduction: To reduce soil erosion

RWH systems can be designed for different scales, from households to
communities, and for institutions like schools and hospitals. The water is
typically collected from roofs and other impervious surfaces and
redirected to a tank, cistern, or reservoir.

RWH is becoming more relevant as the world experiences longer

droughts, groundwater depletion, and freshwater pollution. It can be a
less expensive way to obtain clean water than desalination or piping
water long distances.

Objectives:
These objectives relate to the
volume and quality of water to remain in rivers for the
protection of a natural water body and its aquatic
environment. They are low targets under the irst-intime,
irst-in-right priority water allocation system and will
apply to all new licences and existing licences with a
retro it provision.

The objectives recommended in the South

Saskatchewan River basin's management plan provide
direction on how to increase lows in the highly allocated
Bow, Oldman and South Saskatchewan River sub-basins
and permit allocations in the Red Deer River sub-basin.
They are subject to future review and re inement in light
of improved knowledge and information about the
aquatic environment and water quality.

Conclusion:
For the conservation of water, one must use it wisely so that there is no
wastage of resources. Conservation of water methods is critical since it
is a inite resource required for the existence of all living things,
including humans, animals, birds, and every other type of animal. There
is a shortage of drinking water due to water contamination in our cities,
towns, and nearly everywhere else. Every effort must be made to
preserve water. Methods such as those outlined above can help conserve
water.
