Lecture 22 – How Relationships Impact Your Mindset

You are the average of the five people you spend most of your time
with.
Now think about that for a second. Does it ring true to you? It should
because it’s true.

In this video, I will talk to you about how important it is to choose

your relationships wisely.

• When you constantly deal with positive people, you are more
likely to be motivated, inspired and resonate this positive
energy deep inside of you, too. Likewise, when you surround
yourself with pessimistic people – they will influence you in a
negative way.
• Optimistic individuals like to encourage and push people to be
better. They are supportive and they offer constructive
criticism because they want the best for you. They have faith
in you and their belief in you makes you also want to believe in
yourself.
• Negative people tend to be indifferent. Their discouragement
and lack of faith in you will ultimately lead you to develop
doubt in yourself. These types of people have the potential to
destroy your self-confidence. And when you lose confidence in
yourself, other people will start to lose confidence in you, too.
It's imperative to recognize the power relationships have in your life
and to balance them accordingly. Clearly, we can't simply cut people
out of our lives just because they are being negative. It can be
tricky, especially with family members. However, we can consciously
spend less time with people who don’t contribute to our wellbeing.
According to Eben Pagan, whenever you deal with negative people at
least try to get them at their best. Find out what this person is
passionate about and use it as an opportunity to engage. This will
help to build a more positive connection between the two of you.
This will also make you feel better about yourself.
Think about this in the context of your own life and determine the
relationships that stimulate your growth and those that drag you
down.
