7. Assertion (A): Two bulbs A and B are rated as 100W,220V, and 40W,220V
respectively. Resistance of bulb A is more than that of bulb B.
Reason (R ): For a given potential difference the power consumed in a resistor is
inversely proportional to its resistance.
8. Assertion (A): Alloys are commonly used is electrical heating devices like
electric iron and heater.
Reason (R): Resistivity of an alloy is generally higher than that of its
constituent metals but the alloy has lower melting point then their constituent
metals.
9. A piece of wire of resistance R is cut into three equal parts. These parts are then
connected in parallel. If the equivalent resistance of this parallel combination is
R1, what is the value of the ratio R1 : R?
10. Read the following and answer the questions from 6(i) to 6(v).
A solenoid is a long helical coil of wire through which a current is run to
create a magnetic field. The magnetic field of the solenoid is the
superposition of the fields due to the current through each coil. It is
nearly uniform inside the solenoid and close to zero outside and is like
the field of a bar magnet having a north pole at one end and a south pole
at the other depending upon the direction of current flow. The magnetic
field produced in the solenoid is dependent on a few factors such as, the
current in the coil, number of turns per unit length etc. The following
graph is obtained by a researcher while doing an experiment to see the
variation of the magnetic field with respect to the current in the solenoid.
The unit of magnetic field as given in the graph attached is in milli-Tesla
(mT) and the current is given in Ampere.
12. In the given circuit, A, B, C and D are four lamps connected with a battery of 60V.

two) of this combination of lamps?
(iii) Explain with proper calculations which lamp glows the brightest?
(iv) Find out the total resistance of the circuit.

Then he taps gently and observes that iron filings arrange themselves in a certain
pattern.

(b) Which physical quantity is indicated by the pattern of field lines around the
bar magnet?
(c) State any two properties of magnetic field lines.

The electric circuit (above figure) in a clothes dryer contains two heaters X and Y
in parallel. The above figure shows the circuit connected to a 230 V power supply.
When both switches are closed, the current in X is 3.5 A.
