Despite the game being years away, fans are already

trying to visualise what The Elder Scrolls VI will look
like, and are expecting some big changes compared to
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

ADVERT

The Elder Scrolls VI is now in full development at

Bethesda. It was said the game would become the
developer’s main focus following the release of
Starfield, which will eventually be put on the
backburner following a series of post-launch updates
and the upcoming DLC expansion.

Take a look at Starfield below.

Starfield Official Live Action Trailer

ADVERT

While fans are still a bit salty over how early the game
was announced, the teaser of which lives rent free in
the minds of many players, most are now content the
game is finally on the horizon, even though it’ll be a
good few years before we can get our hands on it.

Speculation has run wild on what features the game

might include, spurred on by promises from
Bethesda’s own Todd Howard, who’s confident the
game will keep players interested for at least a
decade.

Elder Scrolls fan EvenAH27 said, “A new Elder Scrolls

experience is unfathomable” to them, largely
because they have “literally NO IDEA what to expect”
from the game given the massive gap between it and
Skyrim. The first release of Skyrim was in 2011 for
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, a whopping 17 years
ago if you want to feel old.

ADVERT

However, despite that gap most fans are convinced

the game will closely resemble Skyrim in terms of
identity and gameplay. One fan said all Elder Scrolls
games have had an “obvious shared DNA” and doesn't
believe The Elder Scrolls VI will be any different.

Another added the game will “resemble” Skyrim

heavily, but “also have its own uniqueness.” Finally one
fan claimed, “Bethesda doesn’t seem to have evolved
much between Skyrim and Starfield,” and is expecting
another safe, but fun, RPG experience.

The release date for The Elder Scrolls VI is currently

unknown at the time of writing, though it will launch on
Xbox Series X/S, PC and maybe PlayStation 5, though
that’s unconfirmed.

Elder Scrolls fans are tired of the wait for The Elder
Scrolls VI, and fear it’s an omen for future Bethesda
games.

ADVERT

It’s honestly wild that The Elder Scrolls VI was teased

in 2018 only for nothing to come over so many years
later. Starfield, an entirely different game was
released at that time, and recently it was confirmed
the next Elder Scrolls game has only just entered full-
time development.

See the teaser for The Elder Scrolls VI yourself

below

ADVERT

This has been a point of contempt amongst fans who

believe the teaser dropped far too early, and should
have only been announced closer to the game’s
release when we can see some actual gameplay.

The premature announcement has actually killed a lot

of the enthusiasm for the game, as well as raised
several questions and discussions regarding the way
Bethesda creates and markets its latest games.
Rockstar Games has mastered the art of silence
regarding upcoming releases, with hardly a word said
between the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 and
the first trailer for GTA VI.

A discussion was sparked on Reddit about the new

Elder Scrolls game, with many fans believing
Bethesda’s design philosophy is outdated and
flawed, the real reason why the past few games and
future ons don’t pack the same punch as The Elder
Scrolls V: Skyrim did.

ADVERT

“After the Starfield fiasco I have no hope for TES6.

Bethesda have lost their soul and their design choices
in combination with never switching engine is a
testament for TES6 downfall.”

“Nobody will care until the first gameplay trailer comes

out. Then the hype will come back.”

“Bethesda has a horrific attitude. They see themselves

as still being the Skyrim studio who can do no wrong.”

ADVERT

Of course, there’s always the chance The Elder Scrolls

VI is well-worth the wait, and so entertaining we won’t
even be thinking about the next game in the series.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion free remake

landing before The Elder Scrolls 6

If you’ve never heard of The Elder Scrolls: Skyblivion,

allow me to enlighten you. A group of fan developers
have spent several years recreating Oblivion in
Skyrim’s Creation Engine - and an end point for the
project is now finally in sight.

ADVERT

We all know that Bethesda is a studio that doesn’t

like to rush projects, which is quite right. With that in
mind, Skyblivion is very much staying true to
Bethesda’s ethos. The remake has actually been in
the works since 2012, although it was only back in
2020 that we got our first glimpse at it in action.
When the conversion mod does finally land, it’ll be
supported in both the Skyrim Legacy Edition and
Skyrim Special Edition, as well as in Oblivion itself. As
for when it releases? Well, it’ll drop before The Elder
Scrolls VI as Skyblivion is set to land in 2025.

It feels like an age since Bethesda first dropped

The Elder Scrolls VI’s announcement trailer.

ADVERT

Skyblivion is completely modular, offers 4K resolution,

and will remake Oblivion’s DLC in addition to its base
game content. “Remaking Oblivion in the Skyrim
engine is what we set out to do when we started the
Skyblivion project. Making games takes time, this
goes double for a volunteer project the size of a AAA
game that took a team of full time devs years to
make,” the TESRenewal team said. “Regardless, we
would like to share today that Skyblivion is in a state
where we can promise a 2025 release at the latest.”

The remake will be totally free to download. While it

aims to be a faithful remake, Skyblivion should also
contain a few surprises as devs have previously
teased “custom content” such as the addition of
underwater combat.

Given that we have no idea when The Elder Scrolls VI

is set to release, this should pacify franchise fans for a
while - namely those with a PC.

The Elder Scrolls 6 development update

is exactly what we wanted to hear

Despite first being announced back in 2018, The Elder

Scrolls 6 is still expected to be quite a long way away
from launch. However, a development update may just
give us the spark of hope we have been looking for.

ADVERT

Despite it being six years since the next instalment in

the Elder Scrolls was first announced, the Bethesda
title has only been in active development for around
six months. As a result, fans are wondering how long
they will have to wait until they can experience one of
the best-loved franchises of all time. So much so that
even Skyrim Grandma wants to experience it before
she dies.

Check out an Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim graphics

overhaul below!

ADVERT

With the average Bethesda title taking around 3-5

years between major launches and with Starfield
having been released in 2023, some speculate that
we may not see Elder Scrolls 6 until at least 2026.
However, in an interview with WIRED back in
November, Todd Howard shared the big numbers
behind his development teams which may just give
us the update we needed.

In the interview, Howard revealed that around 250

developers were still assigned to Starfield which is
unsurprising considering they are hard at work on the
upcoming Shattered Space DLC. This means that
55% of Bethesda’s 450-man crew are still working on
development for its latest title. In comparison, it is
estimated that there are currently 150 developers
working on The Elder Scrolls 6.

Although this may seem like the opposite of good

news, it could mean that plenty of developers will be
making their way over to the Elder Scrolls 6 after the
release of the Shattered Space DLC for Starfield. If
this is the case, we could see its release be brought
forward a year or two. Of course this is just
speculation so take this news with a pinch of salt.

ADVERT

Regardless of the future for The Elder Scrolls, it is

good to see Bethesda still hard at work on some of
their older titles, including its comeback game,
Fallout 76.

The Elder Scrolls 6 setting was quietly

teased ages ago, and you may have
missed it

I would argue that The Elder Scrolls VI is very nearly

the most anticipated video game of all time, second
only to GTA VI.

ADVERT

We know that the follow-up to Skyrim is currently in

development, but beyond that? The RPG remains a
mystery. Where, exactly, in the vast realm of Tamriel
will the game be set? Skyrim let players loose in the
continent's titular wintry region, while Morrowind
gave us an unforgettable glimpse at the Vvardenfell
province.

We can assume The Elder Scrolls VI is taking us

somewhere new, but where? Well, as it turns out,
Bethesda may have teased this very thing ages ago,
and you might just have missed it.

Take a look at some of the best Skyrim wins and

fails below!

ADVERT

We're headed back in time a bit here, mind you, but

in January 2021 a brief teaser released by Bethesda
celebrating The Elder Scrolls dropped a pretty
substantial hint that The Elder Scrolls VI will take
place in the Hammerfell region.

Hammerfell is a massive, mountainous region that

borders Skyrim and Cyrodill (which is where Oblivion
took place). Home of the Redguards, Hammerfell
boasts vast stretches of desert, and plenty of green,
rich grasslands. There are also multiple major cities to
be found, including the port town of Rihad, which sits
on the coast of the Abecean Sea to the south. There's
lots to see in Hammerfell, basically.

ADVERT

It's worth noting that after the E3 2018 trailer fans

were already convinced that Bethesda was teasing
Hammerfell. But Bethesda's 2021 New Year tweet
further fuelled this speculation when it showed off a
map of Skyrim, along with the caption "transcribe the
past and map the future". That might not seem like
much to go on, but it wasn't long until fans noticed a
series of strange lights on the map that all pointed to
the neighbouring region of Hammerfell.

So, I'm certainly not telling you to put money on

anything, but I wouldn't bet against The Elder Scrolls
VI taking us on a little trip across the border to
Hammerfell.
