EVENING SCHOOL
During the day West College is a normal school. Students arrive at 8:30 in the morning. They're between ten
and sixteen years old, and they study the usual subjects, such as maths, English, and geography. At 4:30 in
the afternoon, the school day finishes, and the students go home. But the school doesn't close. In the
evening it
becomes busy again. More students start to arrive, and at 7:00 p.m. lessons start again. But these lessons are
different – the students are adults! They come to evening classes because they want to learn about things that
interest them. For example, there are lessons in art, languages, and cooking. All the students are over thirty,
and many of them are at work during the day. The oldest student is Eva. She's seventy-eight! She comes to
West. College twice a week to study music. “I've got a lot of free time,” she says, “and I love music. I'm not
studying for an exam. I'm studying for fun!”
