INTRODUCTION: - Migraine is a neurological condition that can cause multiple symptoms.


Frequently characterized by intense debilitating headaches, symptoms may include nausea,
vomiting, difficulty speaking numbness or tingling and sensitivity to light and sound.
Migraines often run-in families and affect all ages.

AETIOLOGY- The exact cause of Migraine is unknown.

PRECIPITATING FACTOR- Definite precipitating factors are lacking but sometimes anxiety,
overwork, emotions upsets, menopause, hypertension, pre-menstrual tension, head-injury,
spondylosis, noise, tumer, depression, lack or excess of sleep, alcohol tasting state may
precipitate on attack.
Types of Migraine----
Migraine is classified into three types—

1. Migraine with aura (classic type)


2. Migraine without aura (common type)
3. Migraine varients (unilateral motor or sensory factors, stimulating stroke)

Clinical Factors----
Age: - Young to adult
Sex: - Common in female
Onset: - Sudden
Family History: - Positive

1. PRODORMAL SYMPTOMS: -- One or two days before a migraine you might notice subtle
changes that warn of an upcoming migraine including—

• Constipation,
• Mood changes, from depression to euphoria
• Food cravings
• Neck stiffness
• Increased thirst and urination,
• Frequent yawing,
2. AURA: -- Actual attack starts after working from sleep, some visual disturbances occur
dazzles, coloured light, ocular pain, lachrymation, photo phobia. Sometimes tingling and
numbness in the face and upper extremities may be seen. Unilateral blindness aphasia is also
seen. This stage of aura last for 20-40 min.
3. HEADACHE: --
i. Onset – In morning after walking
ii. Distribution - Unilateral
iii. Location- Frontal, supraorbital, temporal
iv. Character of pain- Paroxysmal, sharp, splitting, throbbing, pulsating
v. At the height of headache there may be vomiting, photo phobia,
sweating and exhaustion.
vi. The headache may last for 12-19 hours usually but shorter one longer
one attach may also occur.
vii. Facial neurological may also been seen which are due to construction
of branches of internal carotid artery.

4. POSTDROME: - After a migraine attack, you might feel drained, confused and washed
out for up to a day. Some people report feeling elated. Sudden head movement might
bring on the pain again briefly.
5. Diagnosis Migraine: - Migraine diagnosed clinically based on history given by the
patient, certain investigations are --
i. CT Scan of brain
ii. MRI
iii. ECG
iv. Magnetic resonance angiography
Management-
I. Try to modify personality condition.
II. Avoid and eliminate precipitating cause.
III. During attach adequate physical and mental rest.
IV. Rest dark and quite room.

HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES FOR MIGRAINE—


1. BELLADONNA- This remedy is very effective for migraine. Headache
congested with the face, throbbing of brain and carotids. Rush of blood to heal
and face. Pain usually in short attacks.
Modalities- > from side noise, jar, motion, lying down.
< pressure tight bandages.
2. GELSEMIUM- Headache being in cervical spine, pain extend over the head,
causing a bursting sensation in forehead and eye lids, headache proceeded by
blindness
Modalities- > mental creation, from smoking, heat of sun.
< profuse urination.
3. SANGUNARIA- This remedy is very indicated for right side headache.
Headache being sin occiput spread upwards and settles over eye. Congestive
headache, patient can’t tolerate any one voice, light, noise. Nausea and
vomiting associated with headache.
Modalities- > periodically with sun, light jar.
< sleeping in dark room.
4. SPIGELIA- Nervous headache, periodical, beginning in morning at base of
brain spreading over the head, and locating in eye, orbit and temple of left
side. Headache at sunrise, at its highest at noon, decline still sunset.
Modalities- >From motion noise, turning the eyes from
every shaking.
< lying on right side, with the head high.
