Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1. Background of the study

Artificial Intelligence is the development of computer systems that can perform tasks
typically requiring human intelligence, such as problem-solving, learning, and decision-making.
In recent years, Al has become a crucial part of everyday life, influencing industries like
healthcare, business, and especially education. As Al continues to evolve, the impact on learning
and teaching methods is becoming more significant, offering new opportunities for students and
educators to improve the learning experience.
Some researchers proposed that AI could be an effective learning tool that relieves students'
burdens while also providing an effective learning experience. Together with current education
reforms such as digitalization of educational resources, gamification, and personalised learning
experience, there are many opportunities for the development of AI tools in education.
According to the study of L. Chen, (2020), Artificial Intelligence is being increasingly used in
education by schools and universities It began with basic computers and has now advanced to
include online learning systems, humanoid robots, and chatbots that help with teaching.
AI tools is adaptive learning technologies that are prominently featured as important
developments in Xu, Liu, Cao, et al. (2021), AI involves the simulation of human intelligence
by systems or machines, aiming to develop technology that can think and behave like humans,
including perceiving, reasoning, learning, planning, and predicting. Previous studies have
highlighted AI's potential benefits in education. According to A. Huang, O. Lu, & S. Yang

(2023) found that AI-enabled personalized video recommendations can significantly boost
learning performance and engagement for students with moderate motivation levels.
Similarly, L. Chen, (2020) observed that AI's role in education has grown, starting with basic
computer programs and advancing to include online learning systems, humanoid robots, and
chatbots that assist with teaching. However, the use of AI in classrooms also brings challenges.
In a 2024 interview, Brenda Greening expressed concerns that "allowing AI in classrooms can
lead to problems like cheating and copying because students might use it to do their work
without thinking for themselves.
This takes away from the real purpose of learning, which is to help students solve problems and
understand things better. Relying on AI can also lead to accidental plagiarism if students don’t
properly credit the sources. Using AI too much can make it harder for students to create their
own work. Facing challenges without shortcuts helps students build the skills they need for
future success.
The findings revealed the potential for chatbots to help students learn basic content in a
responsive, interactive, and confidential way. Over time, the use of AI tools for education has
increased significantly. AI-based tools are increasingly being used in a variety of educational
settings to improve learning outcomes, raise educational quality, and reduce educators'
workloads. These tools include intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning platforms, personal
learning assistants, and automated essay scoring systems, among others. Some notable examples
of AI-based educational tools include QuillBot, ChatGPT, and Grammarly, among others.

Overall, the rise of AI-powered education tools has the potential to transform the way we learn
and teach in the coming years. The purpose of this study is to explore how AI affects the
academic performance of HUMSS students at Blessed Regina Protmann Catholic School Inc. By
understanding both the benefits and challenges of integrating AI into the learning process, this
research hopes to provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers who seek to optimize
AI’s role in students education. Specially to the Blessed Regina Protmann Catholic School Inc.
Students.
1.2 Statement of the problem
This study aims to determine the effect of Artificial intelligence (AI) on the Academic
achievement of HUMSS students of Blessed Regina Protmann Catholic School Inc.
Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:
● What is the demographic profile of students
○ Age;
○ Sex:;
○ Grade level?
● What is the assess impact of Artificial intelligence (AI) in terms of:
○ Passed Grade;
○ Failing Grade;
○ No learning?
● How has the use of Artificial intelligence (AI) influence the academic performance of the
respondents?
● Is there any significant relationship between Artificial intelligence and Academic
achievements of Humss Students?

1.3 Significance of the study
The result of this study will beneficial the following:
Students, this study will benefit the students by gaining insights into how AI tools can enhance
their learning experiences and outcomes.
Teachers, by Understanding the positive and negative effects of artificial intelligence the study
will help the educators to create an effective strategies for integrating AI in the classroom to
improve teaching methods and student engagement.
Parents/Guardians, the result of the study will benefit the parents/guardians by Learning how
AI impacts their children's education, allowing them to better support their learning at home.
Future Researchers, this study can help the future researchers by exploring the effects of AI
application in education, enhancing understanding of long-term effects and emerging trends.
Future researchers can also replicate this study to enhance or improve the study in the coming
years.
1.4 Scope and delimitation
The general goal/intent of this study is to identify the effect of Artificial Intelligence(Ai)
on the achievement of Humss students in Blessed Regina Protmann Catholic School (BRPCSI).
This study will mainly identify the achievement of 69 Students and how the Artificial
Intelligence affect their academic performance after the Questioners gathered score. this study is
only limited to the students that are enrolled in Blessed Regina Protmann Catholic School in the
school year 2024-2025. The students will be defined through the Survey results. Each students
will receive a Form. This reasearch study will last for the end of the School year 2024-2025.

1. Artificial Intelligence (AI): Technology that enables computers to perform tasks requiring
human thinking, like problem-solving and decision-making, particularly in education.
2. Academic achievement: The extent to which a student or institution has achieved either short
or long term educational goals. Achievement may be measured through students' grade point
average, whereas for institutions, achievement may be measured through graduation rates.
3. Age: A measure of the time elapsed since a person or entity was born, established, or created.
Age can refer to the chronological age of an individual or the length of time since an event
occurred.
4. Sex: A biological characteristic that categorizes individuals as male, female, or intersex based
on their reproductive anatomy and physiology. Sex is typically assigned at birth and is based on
physical attributes such as genitalia, chromosomes, and hormone levels.
5. Personalized Learning: Customized teaching that meets the individual needs and interests of
each student, often enhanced by AI.
6. Engagement: The level of interest and involvement students have in their learning, which
affects their performance.
7. Online Learning Systems: Internet based platforms that facilitate learning, often adapting to
students needs.
8. Humanoid Robots: Robots designed to look and act like humans, used to assist in teaching.
9. Chatbots: AI programs that interact with students, providing quick answers and support for
learning.
