Installation Enhancements
This section covers changes and updates related to the PeopleTools installation in the following areas:
• NFS File System Access for VirtualBox and Linux Deployments

Copyright © 2024, Oracle and/or its affiliates | Confidential: Public
• Separate DDL Scripts for Db2 z/OS Databases

NFS File System Access for VirtualBox and Linux Deployments

This applies to deployments on Linux or VirtualBox. The Linux file system location is made available to Microsoft Windows
systems using the Network File System (NFS) protocol. The DPK setup script deployment on Linux starts NFS services and
makes some of the installation directories under the BASE_DIR/pt (for Native OS for Linux) or /opt/oracle/psft/pt (for
VirtualBox) directory of the virtual machine available to Microsoft Windows computers as shared directories. The repository
directory for Change Assistant is also made available. You can map to these NFS shares from the host computer (for
VirtualBox) or other Microsoft Windows computers.
The NFS protocol replaces Samba, which was used in previous releases.
See Also
PeopleSoft Deployment Packages for Update Images (PeopleTools 8.61).

Separate DDL Scripts for Db2 z/OS Databases

You can now create separate DDL scripts for Create Database and Create Universal Tablespace DDL for PeopleSoft
Application databases that are constructed using Db2 for z/OS Universal Tablespaces (UTS).
The Application Designer and Data Mover utilities have been updated to support the output of scripts for Database DDL and
UTS DDL.

Parameters, OUTPUTDb2DBDDL, OUTPUTDb2UTSDDL, SET Db2DBDDL, SET Db2UTSDDL.

DEVELOPMENT TOOLS ENHANCEMENTS

This section covers changes and updates related to the development of PeopleSoft applications in the following areas:
• Application Engine
• Application Designer
• Fluid Application Development
• PeopleSoft User Interface
• Charts
• PeopleCode
• Portal Technology
• Search Technology

Application Engine
Application Engine includes the following enhancements in this release:
• Enhancing Application Engine Action Plugin
• Meta-SQL Functions

Enhancing Application Engine Action Plugin

With this release, you can create a plug-in for a Call Section action. The plug-in can direct the system to run a SQL or
PeopleCode action or call an Application Engine section.

The Call Section action isn’t used as a plug-in. Rather, it’s a type of plug-in that doesn’t execute an action but directly
executes a plug-in section.

The new step <ALL> is included in the list of steps to be used as a plug-in. When you select <ALL>, it runs all the steps in the
section and therefore the Action column disappears.

Meta-SQL Functions
The enhancement includes:
• The new %GetNextSeqValue meta-SQL function. This function increments the given database sequence and
returns its next value. With this function, you can create new sequences or migrate
GetNextNumberWithGapsCommit().
• The %UpdateStats() meta-SQL function to use the LOW option SQL if no row exists for the HIGH option is
enhanced.
• The new %DeleteStats() function to delete meta-SQLs in Oracle Database.

Engine Meta-SQL.

Application Designer
Application Designer includes the following enhancement in this release.

Formatting Number and Currency Values

In PeopleTools 8.61, two properties are introduced at the record field level that format the display of numbers and currency
values. While the Suppress Trailing Zeros property controls the formatting of number fields, the Extend Decimal Precision
property controls the formatting of currency values. However, these properties can be overridden by the Field Format
Override property at the page level.

Fluid Application Development

This section describes enhancements provided in the area of developing and using fluid applications, including:
• Sectionalizing Fluid Homepages and Dashboards
• Fluid Prompt Page Enhancements

Sectionalizing Fluid Homepages and Dashboards

In PeopleTools 8.61, administrators can sectionalize a fluid homepage or dashboard. Sections provide administrators
granular control over the sequencing of tiles and collecting them within functional groupings for greater usability and user
experience. The Section Assignments page has been introduced to enable administrators to create and manage sections.
Administrators can also disable end-user personalization on any homepage or dashboard, that is, you cannot rename the
homepage, add tiles to the homepage, move tiles to other homepages, and delete tiles. In this release, sectionalized
homepages and dashboards automatically disable end-user personalization.
In previous releases, you could re-order tiles directly on a homepage without going into Personalize Homepage page. In
PeopleTools 8.61, you can personalize a homepage only through the Personalize Homepage page.

Fluid Prompt Page Enhancements

In this release, you have additional configuration options to control the behavior of the Fluid Prompt page at a system level
using System Personalizations and at a user level using the My Preferences page.
See PeopleTools 8.61: Application User’s Guide, "Setting User Preferences," Defining User Preferences.

PeopleSoft User Interface

This section covers changes and updates to using the PeopleSoft user interface, including:
• Improved UI For Personalizing Homepages and Dashboards
• Disabling end-user personalization
• Updated Switch Widget
• PIA Grid Download to Excel Performance Optimization
• Synchronized Classic and Fluid Notify Button

Improved User Interface (UI) For Personalizing Homepages and Dashboards

Improved UI for personalizing homepages and dashboards includes several updates to the visual interface and UI behavior
in the personalization page. The Add Tile option for homepages and dashboards has been enhanced to include both an icon
and text to indicate the compatibility of a tile on the phone. PeopleSoft also introduces an Add button on tiles to add the tile
to the target homepage or dashboard. Other improvements in this feature include label updates and the display of the
number of results for a search on a header.

Disabling End-User Personalization

Administrators can disable end-user personalization on any homepage or dashboard, that is, you cannot rename the
homepage, add tiles to the homepage, move tiles to other homepages, and delete tiles from the homepage. However, you
can copy tiles, but you cannot copy tiles to a homepage or dashboard that does not allow personalization.
In previous releases, you could re-order tiles directly on a homepage without going into Personalize Homepage (or
Dashboard); with PeopleTools 8.61, you can personalize a homepage only through the Personalize Homepage page.

The switch widget has been visually updated to provide a modern, accessible, single width switch construct without the
switch text.

See Also
Product documentation for PeopleTools 8.61: Application User’s Guide, “Setting User Preferences,” Defining User
Preferences.

PIA Grid Download to Excel Performance Optimization

In previous PeopleTools releases, grid download generated a .xls file, which was incompatible with newer Excel versions
from Excel 2010 onwards, and displayed a warning message when opened. In this release, PeopleTools enhances the grid
download utility, enabling you to download the data into a compatible Excel spreadsheet in .xlsx format.

in Original Layout Grids.

Synchronized Classic and Fluid Notify Button Functionality

In this release, the behavior of the Notify button has been synchronized across classic and fluid pages. Classic components
that are Notify enabled will display the fluid notify page by default.

PeopleCode Events
In PeopleTools 8.61, two PeopleCode events have been introduced: PreScrollRowSelect and ScrollRowSelect.
The PreScrollRowSelect event is initiated whenever a user selects a row (using radio buttons) or multiple rows (using check
boxes) in a grid or scroll area. The PreScrollRowSelect event is used to trigger PeopleCode that validates the selected row or
rows.
The ScrollRowSelect event is used to trigger PeopleCode on a row or rows after the PreScrollRowSelect event has validated
the selected row or rows. However, the ScrollRowSelect event can be used independent of the PreScrollRowSelect event.
The PreScrollRowSelect and ScrollRowSelect events can be associated only with fluid component records and record fields.

Configurable Data Partition Indexing

In PeopleTools 8.61, PeopleSoft Search Framework enables you to partition the application data using the Index By Data
Partition option. After the start and end dates and number of partitions are specified, the framework partitions the data
almost equally to process it in parallel. The process creates multiple PTSF_GENFEED Application Engine programs to run the
query on each partitioned data.
The search index build process also creates a unique run control ID for each partition that enables you to re-run a specific
partition independent of the others.

Embed Insights in Applications Page

Search Framework provides the Configure Insights Dashboards - Page Level tab to enable you to embed one or more
PeopleSoft Insights on the applications page. This makes it easier for users to access and analyze Insights data and take
necessary action from the same page.
PeopleSoft provides you the flexibility to filter the data in a visualization based on a context by using an application class
(PTSF_INSIGHTS) that contains PeopleCode to apply filters apart from time range. Page field values can be used as filters.
You can view the applied filters in your visualization. You can also refresh the visualization based on the filter values applied
at runtime.
Note: Set Filters can be configured for a maximum of three page field values.

SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION TOOLS ENHANCEMENTS

This section discusses enhancements made to system administration tools in the following areas.
• Security Administration
• System and Server Administration

Security Administration
This section includes PeopleTools Security Administration enhancements, including:
• Excluding Characters from Randomly Generated Passwords
• Allow Lock Option for User Profiles
• Configuring User Profiles for Forgotten User ID Emails
• Create Node Password Option for Default Local Nodes
• PeopleSoft Encryption Technology Enhancements
• System Personalization Options for Prompt Pages

Excluding Characters from Randomly Generated Passwords

On the Password Controls page (PeopleTools > Security > Password Configuration > Set Password Controls), administrators
enter characters in the Characters Excluded from Randomly Generated Passwords field that will not be used when the
system generates a random password for users who have forgotten their password.
Administrators can use this, for example, to exclude special characters that cause issues with the rich text editor when
setting up the Forgotten email text, or characters that may accidentally produce undesirable words.

See Also
Product documentation for PeopleTools 8.61: Security Administration,“ Administering User Profiles,” Setting Password
Controls.

Allow Lock Option for User Profiles

On the User Profiles - General page (PeopleTools > Security > User Profiles > User Profiles), the Allow Lock option was
added. When Allow Lock is selected, the user account obeys any applicable password controls and can be locked out. This
option is selected by default. If this option is deselected, the password controls for the user profile are bypassed. The
security administrator should be aware that clearing this option removes security controls for the user's password. This will
benefit management of system accounts.
See Also
See the product documentation PeopleTools 8.61: Security Administration, “Administering User Profiles,” Setting General
User Profile Attributes.

Configuring User Profiles for Forgotten User ID Emails

To request a forgotten password, an end user must supply a valid user ID. If end users do not know or have forgotten the
user ID, they can request the user ID that is associated with a valid email address and have an email sent to them, without
the need to contact the help desk or security administrator.
To enable end users to request emails sent to them with forgotten users ID, the system administrator:
1. Adds the email address to the user profile.
2. Allows emails on one of the user’s permission lists.
3. Composes the email text.
4. Sets up a web site for the end user to send a request for their forgotten user ID.
See Also
See the product documentation PeopleTools 8.61: Security Administration, “Administering User Profiles,” Configuring User
Profiles for Forgotten User ID Emails.

Create Node Password Option for Default Local Nodes

On the Portal Node Definitions – Node Definitions page (PeopleTools > Portal > Portal Node Definitions), the Create
NodePassword button was added. The button appears only for the default local node. Click the button to create a 32-
character, strong, random password. Save the password displayed and use a secure password management system to store
it, because you will not be able to retrieve it later as clear text.
Oracle recommends that customers use strong, complex passwords and make use of the maximum number of characters.
This button provides a convenient method to fulfill the requirements for a more secure password.

From PeopleTools 8.61, when you re-apply PRPs using the REPLACE parameter, Change Assistant provides more
information about the REPLACE parameter value and adds more information about already applied PRPs in the logs for
more clarity.
If the REPLACE parameter is set to N, then from the given list of PRPs, the PRPs that you applied previously will not be
reapplied. Only the PRPs that are not yet applied will be applied in the current run.
If the REPLACE parameter is set to Y, then Change Assistant needs to apply all the PRPs from the given list.
