RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR MOOT COURT COMPETITION – 2024-2025
To moot means to bring something to a discussion. In a figurative sense, Moot Court means
“Hypothetical case or hearing/ trial”. The aim of Moot Court activity is to groom the
budding lawyers. It trains the students of law to create links between theory and practice.
Moot court competition provides a platform to the law students to show case their mooting
talent.
RULES:
1. Team Composition:
a) Each team shall comprise of minimum of THREE members and maximum based upon
discretion of the judges. (No researcher).
2. Dress Code:
Inside the court room the participant shall follow the below mentioned dress code:
Female: White Kurta, Black Salwar and Black Dupatta or White Formal Shirt and Black
formal Trousers/skirt along with Black Blazer .
Male: White shirt, Black trousers, Black tie along with Black Blazer and Black shoes .
Memorials:
I) The memorial shall necessarily consist of the following:
(a) Cover Page
(b) Table of Contents
(c) List of Abbreviations
(d) Index of Authorities
(e) Statement of Jurisdiction
(f) Statement of Facts (not more than two pages)
(g) Issues Raised
(h) Summary of Arguments
(i) Advance Arguments

(j) Prayer
II) All the teams shall submit three copies of the memorials of each side (3 copies from
petitioner’s sides and 3 copies from the Respondent’s side), which makes a total of 06
memorials.
III) The memorial should not exceed 35 pages.
IV) The Petitioner memorials MUST have Blue paper covers while the Respondent MUST
have Red paper covers.
V) The Language shall be English.
3) All memorials submitted must conform to the following general rules:
a) Memorials must be printed on white A4 size paper with black ink only.
b) The font used must be Times New Roman, size 12.
c) The font of footnotes must be Times New Roman, Size 10, single line spacing.
d) Each page of the memorial must have a margin of one inch on all sides, excluding its page
number.
e) Page numbers must be given on the top right hand corner.
f) Once the memorials are submitted, no revisions, supplements, or additions will be
allowed.
g) Court Rules as amended from time to time.
4) Oral Submissions:
a) Each team should have THREE speakers who shall divide the oral submissions between
them. Rebuttals are permitted. Sur- rebuttals are at the discretion of the judges.
5) Marking Criteria:
a. Perusal of Facts
b. Knowledge and Application of Law
c. Memorials (written submission)
d. Response to the Court Questions
e. Advocacy Skills and Presentation
f. Case Laws
g. Understanding essential legal issues presented
6) Memoranda exchange:
Teams may be required to exchange memoranda with opposing teams before the
competition.

7) Electronic devices: Teams may be prohibited from using electronic devices during
rounds.
8) Proper use of citations and citation should be submitted before the court on the
same docket used in court.
9) The counsel should underline or highlight any important points in the cases presented
before the court.
10) Important date:
a) Last date for submission of memorials (both sides) – 02/01/2025
b) Moot court competition will be started on - 02/01/2025
11) Miscellaneous
a. The decision of the judges as regards the result of the competition will be the final
and binding;
b. All participants are expected to maintain decorum in the hall where the event will
be held;
c. The court reserves the right to take appropriate action for any unethical,
unprofessional and immoral conduct;
d. The court decision regarding interpretation of rules or any other matter
related to competition will be final;
e. If there is any situation not contemplated in the rules, the decision of the Institute
shall be final.
12) Removal of Difficulty
If any difficulty arises in giving effect to any of the provisions of these guidelines,
authority of the Institute may make such provisions or give such directions as appear to
be necessary for removal of the difficulty.
