COVID-19
COVID-19 which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-
CoV-2) is highly contagious and mainly spreads through respiratory droplets. The virus can be
spread when someone who has COVID-19 coughs or sneezes, talks and is in close contact with
others (Karia et al., 2020). However, if you touch surfaces contaminated with the virus and
subsequently touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, it can also be contracted. Some of the most
common symptoms seen include respiratory symptoms like cough, shortness of breath, and chest
pain, symptoms similar to the flu, such as fever, chills, fatigue, muscle aches, and upper
respiratory symptoms like runny. Moreover, many COVID-19 carriers do not show symptoms,
which makes it difficult to detect and control the spread of the virus (Zhang, 2021)
Working in some occupational roles makes workers more likely to contract COVID-
19. Including doctors, nurses, and support staff, medical care providers are at the frontlines and
are at high risk of exposure because of direct interaction with infected patients. Emergency
responders, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, encounter infected people as part of
their job, as well. People in critical job roles such as grocery store cashiers, public transport
employees, and delivery truck drivers are at risk as they come into constant contact with the
common man (Zhang, 2021). Manufacturing and industrial workers in close proximity settings,
education personnel who have close contact with students and colleagues, and those in the travel
and hospitality industry who interact with travelers are also at risk of infection.
vaccinated. Providing the appropriate PPE, including masks, face shields, gloves, and gowns, is
incredibly important, especially for high-risk careers. In order to reduce transmission, measures
such as rearranging workspaces and encouraging employees to maintain at least six feet of
distance when possible should be implemented for physical distancing (Güner et al., 2020). Hand
hygiene as well as cleaning and sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces and respiratory
etiquette (using a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes) should be promoted. If the job can be
performed from home, organizations should be providing that option to reduce the number of
