Reason For Service Niigata 6L28HX 2 nos. Main Engine Top Overhaul. (PORT & STBD)

M/s. SHIVSHAKTI ENGINERING WORKS, Repaired Team Boarded the vessel on Dt. 27.11.2024 and
started the work on Niigata 6L28HX Main Engine and Following work carried out.

❖ CYLINDER HEADS: -

➢ All 6 Nos. Cylinder head removed & dismantled. Inspected all the components.

❖ CYLINDER HEAD CASTING: -

➢ Checked for corrosion on flame plates and its sealing surface. Found no corrosion.
➢ Checked for any mechanical damage on landing surface, in pockets of valve seats, valve guides
and injector sleeve no damage.
➢ Checked the water passage for rust, scaling and corrosion, observed in good condition.
➢ All Cylinder head fully dismantled cleaned and washed by diesel and air pressure.
➢ All cylinder head Pressure tested @6 bar.

❖ INLET & EXHAUST VALVE SEAT: -

➢ Checked inlet valve seating surface and found no valve seats with deep pitting marks on
seating area, however all the exhaust valve seats removed and fitted Same valve seats in
place.
➢ Checked exhaust valve seating surface and found all the exhaust valve seats with light pitting
marks on running area, inlet seats minor pitting was eliminated by lapping.
➢ All the inlet and exhaust valve seats were lapped with their respective valves.

❖ INLET & EXHAUST VALVE: -

➢ Slight carbon deposition observed on the inlet valve stem & valve disc after dismantling.
➢ Inlet valves cleaning and measurement carried out and found were observed with light
carbon deposition and pitting on seating area, however all the inlet valve were lapped all
valve within limit.

➢ Exhaust Valves cleaning and measurement carried out and found were observed with light
carbon deposition and light pitting on seating area, however all the exhaust valve were
lapped all valve within limit.
➢ valve steam area of inlet & exhaust valves and found no crack.
➢ Inlet and exhaust valves lapping.

❖ VALVE GUIDE: -

➢ All the valve guides visual inspection carried out and found ok.
➢ All inlet valve guide bore diameter checked and found guide clearance within limit.
➢ All valve guide O’rings and stem seal renewed by new one

❖ VALVE SPRING: -

➢ All valve spring inspected found ok.

❖ VALVE COTTER: -

➢ Checked for any physical damage and crack. Found ok.

❖ ROTO CAP: -

➢ All the roto cap overhauling carried out. Function test of rotocap check after valve assembly.

❖ PUSH ROD: -

➢ All push rod inspected found ok.

❖ ROCKER ARM: -

➢ Checked the rocker arm freeness and found ok.


➢ All the rocker arms dismantled and inspected shaft and bearing bushes.
❖ AIR STARTING VALVE: -

➢ All the air starting valves, inspected & cleaned.


➢ All cylinder head mounted on engine with new sealing kit & tightened as per manual
hydraulic pressure.
➢ Tappet setting of all units carried out.

❖ FUEL INJECTION VALVES: -

➢ All the injection valves cleaning and testing.


➢ Injector opening pressure adjusted to 330 bar as per manual.

OTHER JOBS: -

• Engine systems charged and checked for leakages. No Leakages found.


• Lube oil flow checked for the following engine components.
• Rocker arm & valve mechanisms.
• Piston & connecting rod.
• After preheating the engine water and lube oil, blow thru done.
• All tightening done as per procedure stated in the engine instruction manual.
Engine Sea Trial Run in the presence of C/E and Vessel Supdt. found ok.
• All temperature and gauges are normal and steady.
