As stated previously, Hong Kong, a largely autonomous region of China, is a far less
wealthy nation than the United States — in fact, Hong Kong's GDP equates to only 1%
of our GDP. Yet, with less economical resources, the nation still has a life expectancy
(DRAMATICALLY) 9 YEARS GREATER THAN THE UNITED STATES. This statistic
reveals that Hong Kong, a nation with universal healthcare, has a more effective system
for keeping their people healthy, rendering universal healthcare THE SUPERIOR
APPROACH TO PUBLIC HEALTH. (PAUSE) My opponents believe that to implement
such a system, a major tax increase would be warranted. But considering the fact that,
according to the Yale School of Public Health, an estimated 212,000 LIVES would have
been saved in 2020 ALONE if universal health care was to be implemented, the benefits
of such a system would GREATLY outweigh the increase in taxes. Healthcare is a
BASIC HUMAN RIGHT, yet thousands — sometimes HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS —
of people in the WEALTHIEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD perish because we use an
ineffective system of providing fundamental care to citizens. My opponents also argue
that universal healthcare would be too expensive to implement.
