Color Upgrade for 7895 Monochrome
Models
This publication provides procedures for installing the Color Upgrade kit to Common Product
Name monochrome models. This kit may be used for Self-Checkout (SCO) units and Assisted
Lane units.
Note
For NCR 7895 Assisted Lane units, Scanner Color Camera USB3 Type C to
Type A - 3m (1432-C891-0030) must be ordered separately and must be available
upon installation of the 7895-K400 kit.

Installation Procedure
Important
Perform color camera installation in a clean environment to prevent dust or any
foreign matter from entering the optical chamber.
To install the Color Upgrade kit on NCR 7895 Monochrome models, follow these steps:
1. Remove the Top Plate and then the Tower Cover. For more information, refer to
"Accessing Scanner Components" on page 14.
2. Air-blow the inner tower housing to remove any dust buildup.
3. Remove the left and right Monochrome Illumination Boards. For more information,
refer to "Removing the Monochrome Illumination Board" on page 22.
4. Install the Color Illumination Boards.
Note
The following images show the Illumination Board only on the right side of the
tower housing. However, procedures for installing the right and left Illumination
Boards are the same.

a. Insert the foot tabs of the board into the locating slots and push the board into the
housing.
b. Re-install the Seal Plug.

c. Connect the Main PCB Cable to the Color Illumination Board.
5. Remove the Camera Opening Plug by pushing the tab down to disengage the snap,
and then pulling the Camera Opening Plug away from the housing.

6. Install the Color Camera Assembly.
a. Remove the Color Camera Lens Cover from the Color Camera Assembly.
b. Snap the Color Camera Assembly into place.

g. If applicable, attach the service label that is included in the camera package. The label
is printed with the camera serial number.

8. Connect the Color Camera Harness by doing the following:
l Connect the 3-pin connector of the longest branch to the Color Camera
Connector on the Touch Board.
l Connect one 3-pin connector to each Illumination Board.
l Connect the 5-pin connector to the Color Camera Assembly.

9. Route the Color Camera Harness under the cable retainer tab.
10. Mount the cable clip on the back of the tower housing.
a. Clean the mounting surface with isopropyl alcohol.
b. Let the surface dry out completely or wipe it with a lint-free cloth.
c. With the opening of the retainer tab facing down, attach the cable clip to the
tower mounting surface. Press on the sides to attach the clip properly.
11. Route the Color Camera USB Cable depending on the following scanner setup:
l For NCR 7895 used in Assisted Lane units, refer to "Routing the Color Camera
USB Cable for Assisted Lane Units" on page 25.

l For NCR 7895 used in Self-Checkout (SCO) units, refer to "Routing the Color

12. Re-install the Tower Cover. For more information, refer to "Accessing Scanner
Components" on the next page.
13. Attach the Color Camera Service Label next to the Manufacturing/Certification Label.
14. Re-install the Top Plate. For more information, refer to "Accessing Scanner
Components" on the next page.

Accessing Scanner Components
In some cases, the Top Plate or the Tower Cover need to be removed to access NCR 7895
internal components or to access the USB A port below the Top Plate.

Removing the Top Plate for Full-size Scanner-only Models
l Hold the front edge and the top of the Top Plate, and then lift the Top Plate off the
scanner.

l Hold the front edge and the top of the Top Plate, and then lower the Top Plate onto the
scanner until it sits on the tabs of the metal frame.

Removing the Top Plate for Full-size Scanner/Scale
Models
1. Slightly lift up the front edge of the Top Plate and slide the Top Plate forward until its
hooks are released from the positioning tabs on the scale.

2. Holding the front edge and the top of the Top Plate, pull the Top Plate out and lift it off
the scanner.

Installing the Top Plate for Full-size Scanner/Scale
Models
1. Holding the front edge and the top of the Top Plate, and with the Top Plate slightly
tilted, position the Top Plate on top of the scanner base.
2. Slide the Top Plate onto the scanner base until the hooks on the bottom of the Top Plate
are positioned under the tabs on the scale.

3. Lower the front edge of the Top Plate until the Top Plate sits securely on the scanner
base.

l Hold the front edge and the top of the Top Plate, and then lift the Top Plate off the
scanner.

Installing the Top Plate for Midsize and Compact Models
l Hold the front edge and the top of the Top Plate, and then lower the Top Plate onto the
scanner until it is secure.
Removing the Tower Cover
l Using your thumb, lift the center of the Tower Cover to disengage and remove it from
the tower housing.

l Slide the Tower Cover onto the back of the tower housing until it snaps into place.

Removing the Monochrome Illumination Board
Note
The images in this procedure show the Illumination Board only on the right side of the
tower housing. However, procedures for removing both the right and left Illumination
Boards are the same.
To remove the Monochrome Illumination Board, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the Main PCB Cable from the Monochrome Illumination Board.

2. Remove and set aside the Seal Plug from the housing slot.
Note
The Seal Plug will be reused to secure the Color Illumination Board.

Routing the Color Camera USB Cable for
Assisted Lane Units
To install the Color Camera USB Cable on NCR 7895 used in Assisted Lane units, follow
these steps:
1. Secure the ferrite of the Color Camera USB Cable to the tower housing.
a. Insert the locking head of the cable tie into the slot of the channel feature in the
scanner tower.
b. Push the ferrite all the way in by sliding the head of the cable tie through the slot.

2. Connect the USB Cable to the Color Camera Assembly and route it under the retainer
tab of the cable clip.
Caution
Ensure that the USB Cable is not touching the Color Camera Harness.
3. Route the USB Cable through the cable exit slot on the side of the tower.
4. Connect the Color Camera USB Cable to the USB 3.0 port of the POS terminal.

Routing the Color Camera USB Cable for Self-
Checkout Units
To install the Color Camera USB Cable on NCR 7895 used in Self-Checkout (SCO) units,
follow these steps:
1. Take the Color Camera USB Cable out of the left-side pocket of the SCO unit, remove
the twist tie, and straighten the cable.
2. Secure the ferrite of the Color Camera USB Cable to the tower housing.
a. Insert the locking head of the cable tie into the slot of the channel feature in the
scanner tower.
b. Push the ferrite all the way in by sliding the head of the cable tie through the slot.

3. Connect the USB Cable to the Color Camera Assembly and route it under its retainer
tab.
Caution
Ensure that the USB Cable is not touching the Color Camera Harness.
4. Route the USB Cable through the cable exit slot on the side of the tower.
