HCMC UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY FINAL EXAMINATION

AND EDUCATION SEMESTER 3 - ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-2022

Faculty for High Quality Training Course name: Calculus III
Group of Mathematics Course ID: MATH132601E
Exam code: 01 Number of pages: 02
Duration: 90 minutes.
Open-book.

Question 1: (1 point/10) A particle moving in space has the velocity vector V (t) = (t + 1)⃗i +
sin t ⃗j + et ⃗k.
a. Find the position vector R(t) of the particle at time t if the initial position is R(0) = 2⃗i−⃗j+⃗k.
b. Find the acceleration vector A(t) for the particle at time t.
Question 2: (1 point/10) Let C be the curve defined by the vector function R(t) = ⟨t2 , et , ln(t+1)⟩.
Find the curvature of the curve at the point (0, 1, 0) .
Question 3: (1 point/10) The pressure P , volume V , and temperature T of a mole of an ideal
gas are related by the equation P V = 8.31T , where P is measured in kilopascals, V in liters,
and T in kelvins. Use differentials to find the approximate change in the pressure if the volume
increases from 12 L to 12.3 L and the temperature decreases from 310 K to 305 K.
Question 4: (1 point/10) Suppose that over a certain region of space the electrical potential V
is given by V (x, y, z) = 2x2 − xy + 3xyz.
(a) Find the rate of change of the potential at P (1, −1, 2) in the direction of the vector ⃗v =
⃗i + ⃗j − ⃗k.

(b) In which direction does change most rapidly at P ?

(c) What is the maximum rate of change at P ?
Question 5: (1 point/10) Find the local maximum and minimum values and saddle point(s) of
the function f (x, y) = x2 + xy + y 2 + y.
Question 6: (3.5 points/10)
(a) Evaluate the double integral ZZ
I= (x + 2y)dA
D

where D is the region bounded by the curve y = x3 + 1, y = −2x + 4, x = 2.

ZZZ
(b) Evaluate I1 = zdV , where E is the region that lies inside both the half-cone z =
p E p
x2 + y 2 and the hemisphere z = 1 − x2 − y 2 .

field F(x, y) = x⃗i+y⃗j and S is the hemisphere z = 1 − x2 − y 2 . Evaluate
p
(c) Given the vector RR
the flux integral S F.NdS, where N is the outward directed unit normal field.

Question 7:(1.5 points/10) Given the force field F(x, y) = 2y 3/2⃗i + 3x y⃗j.
(a) Show that the force field F is conservative, then find a scalar potential f of F.
(b) Use the result of Part (a) and a line integral, find the work done by this force field F in
moving an object along an arbitrary piecewise smooth curve C with the initial point P (1, 4)
and the terminal point Q(−1, 1).
