ME 370: Thermodynamics, Fall 2022

Course Description:
Fundamental theories and engineering applications of thermodynamics are discussed with
emphasis on first and second laws of Thermodynamics. Thermodynamic properties of
solids, liquids, gases, and mixtures are explained, and several thermodynamic cycles are
presented and studied. Work-producing and work-absorbing systems are explained. The
concepts of entropy, reversibility and irreversibility are discussed. This course provides
students with the required knowledgebase and tools to analyze and design
Thermodynamic systems.

Instructor:
Dr. Ali Nekouzadeh
E-mail: [email protected]

Textbook:
“Thermodynamics- An Engineering Approach”, 9th Edition, by Cengel, Y.A. and Boles,
M.A.,McGraw Hill

Final Score:
• Quizzes 20%
• Midterm Exam 30%
• Final Exam 30%
• HWs and Overall Instructor Evaluation 20%

* No make-up exam. No internet connection during exams. Only simple engineering

calculators can be used for the exams and quizzes.

Class Attendance:
Class attendance is strongly recommended. Students are allowed not to attend the class
up to 4 sessions. Not attending the class beyond four sessions will impact the instructor
evaluation.
