Learning Competencies/Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to
1. Show which constellations may be observed at different times of the year using models
Code: S9ES-IIIj-35
Specific Objective
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1.1 Relate color with temperature of a star.
ENGAGE (10 minutes)
Picture Analysis The expected answers:
Analyze the following photos and identify the
activity it depicts and the sun's role in it.
Drying clothes
Sun allows to dry clothes.
Dried fish
Sun allows to dry and preserve fish to make it
last longer.
Pottery
Sun allows to make it tougher.
Solar pannels
Convert sunlight into electrical energy.
Greenhouse effect
Sun gives warm to Earth
EXPLORE (15 minutes)
The learners will divide into four groups and
perform the activity.
ACTIVITY 1: MY COLORFUL STARS!
*Attached the activity sheet*
EXPLAIN (15 minutes)
>Students will present their work to the class.
Guide questions
1.Which among the stars in the list are the
coolest? Select 2 of them. What color do they
have? Betelgeuse and Antares, color red
2. Which among the stars in the list are the
hottest? Select 2 of them. What color do they Spica and Beta, color blue
have?
3. Compare our Sun with polaris. What are their
similarities and differences? Sun and polaris are both yellow stars, polaris
is only hotter by 300°C
4. What are the relationship of a star's color and The coolest stars are red and the hottest stars
star's temperature? are blue.
>The teacher will discuss the topic thoroughly.
Are the stars same in color? And temperature?
No
When we look at the night sky, we see thousands
of stars. In reality, there are approximately 400
billion stars in our galaxy, and there are about
170 billion galaxies. A person can see only about
3,000 stars on the average.
What is Star?
A star is a massive ball of plasma that emits
light throughout the universe.
The sun is the brightest star on earth because it is
the closest star to us
The color of the star indicates it's surface
temperature. Blue is the color of the hottest
star and red is the color of coolest star.
ELABORATE (15 minutes)
Are the stars same in color? No
What makes the star different in color? Stars are different in color because of their
surface temperature.
What does the color blue star mean?
Bluer appearance is the hottest star
How about color red? And how about color
yellow? Red is the coolest and yellow is mid ranges
star.
EVALUATION (5 minutes)
Directions: Read each statement carefully. Write
the letter of the correct answer (1 point each). For
numbers 1 to 3, use the table that presents color
information about stars A, B, C, and D. Star Color
A Red, B Yellow, C White, D Blue
1.Which star is the hottest?
A. A B. B C. C D. D
D
2. Which star is very similar to our sun?
A. A B. B C. C D. D
B
3. Which star is the coolest?
A. A B. B C. C D. D
A
4. Why do stars have color?
A. It is because of the presence of oxygen.
B. It is because of the presence of carbon dioxide.
C
C. It is because of temperature variation.
D. It is because of the different locations.
5. Our sun is the closest star to our planet.
A. true
B. false
