Guidelines for FYP1 Project (Application-Based)
Firstly, refer to the Project Guidelines given by the faculty, then refer to this notes:
1) Abstract
Do this at the very end after the Report has been completed
2) Chapter 2: Background Study/Literature Review (Week 1 - 4)
Find real-world companies related to the project that you are in (at least 10 companies)
Compare and contrast the companies’ information systems
Find out the good and the bad things regarding their systems (advantages and
disadvantages)
3) Chapter 1: Introduction (Week 5, 6)
Introduction on your project
Research Objectives (3 of them)
o Study the current systems that are commercially available
o Develop your own system
o Study the effectiveness of the system developed
Scope of the Project
Research Problems
4) Chapter 3: Requirements/Theoretical Framework (Week 7, 8)
Systems requirement and all the technical diagrams used (e.g. Context Diagram/Data Flow
Diagram, Entity Relationship Diagram, Use Case Diagram)
5) Chapter 4: Design/Research Methodology (Week 9, 10)
Systems Requirement will be translated to technical representation (e.g. Data Dictionary,
Sequence Diagram)
Referring back to Chapter 2, you will come up with the solution on what are the
components/features that need to be built in your system
Prototype
What Methodology will you use (e.g. SDLC, Waterfall, Prototyping): explain each steps of
the methodology in relation to your project
6) Chapter 5: Implementation Plan (Week 10)
Your plan for this trimester (FYP 1) and next trimester (FYP 2), project activities and
milestones (use Gantt chart)
7) Chapter 6: Conclusion (Week 11)
Based on your Research Objectives, what have you achieved this trimester and what need
to be achieved by next trimester
What lessons have you learned: the good and the bad things
8) References/Bibliography
Use APA style
9) Appendix
