Preventing Injury and Damage

 Preventing Shock: Always remove power from the machine before starting any service tasks.
 Preventing ESD: To prevent damage to electronic components, always use appropriate electrostatic discharge
(ESD) precautions. Use a wrist or ankle strap and ground all tools and equipment.
 Replacing the Power Cord: If the Power Cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer (Scientific
Games Corporation), its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.
 Properly Secure and Vent All Equipment: Before starting any service tasks, the cabinet, top or accessory box,
and machine must be correctly secured and installed, with adequate ventilation, as described in the
corresponding product manual or guide to avoid injury and equipment damage.
 Ladder Safety: Follow all company mandated ladder safety procedures. Do not exceed the maximum load
rating of a ladder. Be aware of the ladder load rating and of the weight it is supporting, including the weight of

machine printer are vouchers, accounting statistics reports, diagnostic reports, and receipts for jackpots and other
payments by Attendants. The location of the printer is at the right front of the cabinet above the deck.

BIOS Module LEDs

The BIOS provides LEDs on the top to identify status information.

Figure 49 BIOS Module Example

The following table provides information about the BIOS module LED indicator lights:
Table 8 BIOS Module LED Indicators

LED Color Meaning

Power Red When illuminated, the BIOS/ JUR SPI module has been properly inserted and the CPU power is on.
POST Start Yellow When illuminated, the BIOS has begun the boot-up process, and POST is executing.
POST Done Green When POST has successfully completed the green LED is illuminated and control is transferred to the UBE loader to
validate the media.
Validation Pass Blue When illuminated, the UBE loader has completed the validation of the media and the image is deemed valid. The
UBE then transfers the control to the OS/ game. If any of the media fails to validate, the LED remains unlit and the
control is not transferred.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are these error messages?

For detailed error message information, see your ArgOS 2.X Operating System Service Manual and User Guide (part number
1458262).

Where can I find more detailed CPU information?

For detailed CPU information, see your CPU-4X Control Subsystem Service Manual and User Guide (part number 1456703).

Why doesn’t the game work after turning on the machine?

Confirm the following:
 All cables are connected properly.
 With the CPU-4X door closed, the four power LEDs are lit (3.3V, 5V,12V, and POWER GOOD).
 If power indicator LEDs are not lit, set the game Power Switch to OFF and verify that CPU-4X is properly seated.
 BIOS/JUR SPI module is installed and fully seated.

Why did the CPU overheat?

The fan assembly may not be functioning. Confirm that the fan assembly is correctly installed and fully seated in the
backplane receptacle.

Why is the game not starting up when the power is on?

The CPU components may not be working correctly. Confirm the following:
 The 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and POWER GOOD power indicator LEDs illuminate when the machine power switch is on.
 The BIOS SPI module is installed correctly.
 The BIOS SPI module socket connector is not damaged.
 The LEDs on the BIOS SPI module indicate no errors. See BIOS Module LEDs on page 39.
 The RAM module is present, correctly installed, and free of debris.
 The RAM module is working correctly when exchanged with a working RAM module.

Why do I see clear NVRAM messages during a RAM clear?

The CPU components may not be working correctly. Confirm the following:
 BIOS SPI module EPROM is installed and in the proper orientation. If not, replace it.
 All the pins of the SPI EPROM are not damaged and are inserted into their corresponding sockets.
 The non-conductive battery tabs are removed.

Power Supply Overview

A machine receives power from a floor or wall outlet. The power supply converts the incoming power from AC to DC
required for machine components. In general, a power supply may convert single or multiple voltages. All machines
contain one or more power supplies to provide power to the CPU Board and other cabinet components through the
backplane board. The power supply connects to the cabinet through receptacles at the back of the backplane housing
assembly, without any additional cables.
The location of the power supply is at the left of the backplane housing assembly.

Door and Key Switch Periodic Maintenance

Testing Cable Continuity using a Continuity Tester (or Multimeter)

Use the following instructions to test a cable for continuity:
1 Switch on the continuity tester and adjust the controls as appropriate. Continuity testers may differ slightly.
a For a multimeter, adjust the controls to measure continuity or resistance (ohms).
2 Place one test lead in contact with the connector or pin at each end of the wire to be tested.
a To test cables with multiple wires, test each wire individually by viewing the color and gauges of each wire
and testing the corresponding pins and connectors individually.
b To test for intermittent continuity at the junction of the wire and connector pin, hold the cable connector
and move the wires gently during testing.
3 View the results or listen to the audible indicators as appropriate for your continuity testing tool.
a For a multimeter, if the resistance is zero (0) ohms, then the cable is not damaged. (If the resistance is not
zero (0) ohms, then the cable is not working.)
4 If necessary, repair or replace the affected cable.
