Here we are going to present our report about ethical principles in Addis Ababa Education
Bureau. Firstly, we went to Addis Ababa Education Bureau and we tried to check whether they
post ethical principles or not. When we entered in to the office, we saw a banner stating
ethical principles in their office in different places. The ethical principles were:

After we were assured, we went in to the office to ask further explanation about the ethical
principles, there purpose and other related questions. There we met the Addis Ababa Education
Bureau Ethics and anti-corruption Directorate Director Asfaw Shiferaw, then we presented our
questions. And here is a summary of our interview with him.
What is the purpose or benefits of posting ethical principles in offices?
There is various reason for posting ethical principles in offices. The main purpose of posting these
ethical principles is to influence the behavior of employees so that they follow those principles. It like a
constant remainder for the employees to follow the principles. Other benefit is maintaining legal
compliance. Often, the ethical standards that organizations set out for themselves correspond directly
with legal guidelines. Therefore, when organizations establish strong ethical codes of conduct, they
often fall in line with the legal regulations set out for them by official governing bodies and receive the
dual benefit of complying with their legal obligations. When organizations set out clear ethical standards
for their workplace, they can typically enjoy an improved public image. Therefore, acting ethically can
significantly improve an organization's public image and avoid potential criticisms that would arise
through unethical behavior.

What are the rewards for adhering to these principles?


Even though there are no direct rewards for applying these principles it is a crucial requirement that
must be met by employees to get job and/or promotion. It also helps employees to build strong
relationships with colleagues and administers by enhancing there reputation so that they even get a
leadership role. The reward can be intrinsic satisfaction which comes from the sense of pride and
fulfillment by doing the right thing.

What are the punishments for not fulfilling these principles?


Punishments for failing to adhere to ethical principles in the workplace vary depending on the severity
of the violation. For minor breaches, such as a gap in transparency or accountability, consequences
often begin with verbal or written warnings to address the behavior and clarify expectations. These
incidents may also be reflected in performance reviews, potentially impacting future opportunities for
promotions or professional development. For severe ethical violations, such as breaches of
confidentiality, the consequences can worsen significantly. Termination of employment is a common
outcome for major misconduct, especially when trust and integrity have been compromised.

how it can be checked whether these principles are implemented or not?


Mostly the office use customers comments to check if employees are implementing these principles.
Comments and reviews from customers can provide direct insights into whether employees and the
organization as a whole uphold values like integrity, transparency, and accountability in their
interactions. For example, customers may comment on whether they felt they received honest and
accurate information, experienced respectful and fair treatment, or had their confidentiality protected
during transactions or service delivery. Also, Regular audits and compliance checks play a critical role in
identifying adherence to ethical standards. For instance, financial audits can reveal transparency in
reporting, while data protection assessments ensure confidentiality protocols are being followed.
