Notes:
This headband can easily be made to fit any head size. The flower can be made to your size
preference as well. For a larger flower, use a larger hook. For a smaller flower, use a smaller hook.
Feel free to experiment with other yarn weights as well!
Instead of counting stitches, this headband is made by measurement. No stitch gauge is
necessary.

If pattern says "dc 3", dc one time in each of next 3 sts. If pattern says "3dc", complete 3 dc sts
in one st.

Instructions
Headband:

If you are able, measure the head of the person the headband will be made for. Measure around
the head where the headband will be worn. If you do not have a measuring tape, use a strand of
yarn and measure the yarn strand afterwards with a ruler.
Subtract 1" from this measurement. This will be the length of your headband.

If you are unable to get a head measurement, use the following measurements:
0-3 months: 13"
3-6 months: 14.5"
6-12 months: 16"
1-3 years: 18"
4-12 years: 19"
13 years to adult small: 20"
Adult medium: 21.5"
Adult large: 23"
Do NOT subtract 1" from these suggested measurements.

Use the headband yarn color and a 4.0mm crochet hook (G/6) and leave a lengthy tail before beginning.
1. Make a chain the length specified above (either 1" shorter than the head measurement taken
or use the suggested measurement without subtracting 1"), ending on a multiple of 3.

2: Sc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 2, sc again in same st, *sk 2 sts, [sc, ch 2, sc] in next st* repeat
to end of chain.

3: In final ch, work another [sc, ch 2, sc] (there will now be 2 of these st grps worked in this ch).
Do NOT turn, but rotate your work so you are working in the opposite side of the chain.
*Sk 2 sts, [sc, ch 2, sc] in next st* repeat to end, working the final st grp in the final ch st (the
same st you worked your very first st grp in).
(Your st grps on this side of the ch should be worked in the same sts as the st grps on the opposite side of
the ch with the same sts being skipped as on the opposite side as well.)

4: Sl st the short ends of the headband together. Don't worry too much about the seam as it will
be covered by the flower when the headband is complete.
FO and weave in ends.

Flower:

Use the flower yarn color and a 6.0mm crochet hook (J/10).

1: Ch 56, sl st in 5th ch from hook, *ch 2, sk 2 sts, sl st in next st* to end of ch.
2: Do NOT turn, but rotate your work so you are working in the opposite side of the chain.
You will now be working in the spaces between the sl sts of the previous row.
[Sc, dc, ch 1, dc, sc] in each st sp until you reach the end of the row.
FO leaving a tail of at least 12" for finishing.

3
Finishing:

Beginning with the end of your strip that does not have the lengthy tail, tightly roll strip, forming
the flower shape.
SEE FIGURE A (Below)

Using lengthy tail and yarn needle and holding flower so the underside is facing
you, secure by stitching a straight line from the top to the bottom (stitching through
the row of chains and slip stitches, not the petals themselves).
SEE FIGURES B and C

Turn 1/4 turn (90 degrees) and stitch another straight line from top to bottom.
SEE FIGURE D

Beginning on underside of flower, pull needle straight up through center of rose and out the
top.
SEE FIGURE E

Stitching over just one stitch, pull needle straight back down center of rose to the
underside.
SEE FIGURE F

Continue to stitch through the underside of the flower until you feel that it is secure and won't
come unraveled. Securely stitch flower onto headband at the headband seam (where the two
short ends were joined).

FO and weave in ends.
