Doug's Take
I love the first-generation Ford Explorer, as it had an
enormous impact on the proliferation of SUVs into
the American market. This particular Explorer is a
two-owner example with a 4.0-liter V6 and 4-wheel
drive – and it's finished in attractive Cayman Green
Metallic. It also features some nice equipment for the
era, including a roof rack, air conditioning, and cruise
control, along with no major modifications. Plus, this
Explorer comes with an accident-free Carfax report
showing warm-climate North Carolina ownership
since new – and it's offered with the excitement of no
reserve.
Highlights
THIS... is a 1994 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4, finished in
Cayman Green Metallic with a Mocha interior.
The attached Carfax history report contains multiple
gaps, though it lists no accidents or mileage
discrepancies for the given time period. It also shows
that this Explorer has been registered to two owners
in North Carolina since new.
According to the window sticker provided in the
gallery, this Explorer came equipped with Preferred
Equipment Package 941A, 15-inch wheels, a 3.73 axle
ratio, a roof rack, cloth upholstery, cruise control, and
more as detailed below.
Modifications reported by the selling dealer are
limited to an aftermarket tow hitch receiver and a
Sony head unit.
The first-generation Ford Explorer made its debut in
1991 as the replacement for the Bronco II, and it was
an instant success, transforming the American
automotive landscape forever. It was offered in 4-
door and 2-door body styles along with manual or
automatic transmissions. Two and four-wheel drive
configurations were also available.
Power comes from a 4.0-liter V6, rated at 160
horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to
the rear or all four wheels through a 4-speed
automatic transmission.
Equipment
A window sticker is provided in the gallery, and a partial
list of notable equipment includes:
Preferred Equipment Package 941A (air conditioning,
deluxe tape stripe)
15-inch wheels
3.73 axle ratio
Roof rack
Running boards
Cloth upholstery
Power windows, locks, and mirrors
Cruise control

Aftermarket tow hitch receiver

Known Flaws
Some chips, scratches, and peeling clearcoat around
the exterior

Corrosion on some underbody components

Re: ChangeDriven I mean it could have that Jazz
design from 90s solo cups on it. But short of that
its about as 90s as you could get.

Sweet truck! My first car was a 93 in light blue
with a matching interior. This is PEAK 90's. GLWA!
Keep this one on the road!

I have such a soft spot for these. My first car was
a '92 4 door model in the darker forest green
color. Was in our family since new and never gave
any trouble in the roughly 160k we put on it.
Especially impressive given how poorly I treated it
as a new driver. Glad to see there are still some
nice surviving examples. Would absolutely bid on
this if finances allowed. GLWA

Re: Upstreamauto These used to be everywhere
on television back in those days. In addition to
Jurassic Park, I'll always remember the dad from
Step-By-Step bought one when it first came out,
then became the permanent fixture in the
driveway on the outside house shots lol.
Yes, I am that corny that I remember such a thing.

Good evening and welcome to the auction! Just
wanted to pop in and say a few things on opening
night.
I thought this was a cool specimen of the first gen
explorer. I remember when these were new when I
was first noticing cars and how could you forget
seeing one torn apart by a T-Rex in Jurassic Park!
Now you don’t see too many left, I think cash for
clunkers got most of em haha! This one stood out
since the mileage is low and still had its window
sticker with it, as well as being very original. Gotta
love the color it’s so iconic of 90s fords!
I’m an open book when it comes to answering
questions and providing as much info about the
car as I can. Feel free to schedule a test drive if
you are local or third party inspection. I think
I got most everything covered in the pictures but if
there’s anything you want a better look at please
ask I do not mind at all.
Happy bidding Yall!
