Instructions: Attempt all questions. Parts a, b, c of each question are compulsory for which the allotted marks
are 3, 4 ,4 respectively, and d & e part will have an internal choice for which the allotted marks is 10. All
subparts of a question should be answered at one place.
Q. No. Question CO
1(a) Evaluate the maximum velocity of the electrons in a CRT having a cathode and anode CO1
voltage of 2000 volts?
(c) Two sinusoidal signals with equal amplitudes and frequencies are applied to both CO1
inputs of a CRO. An ellipse rotating in anticlockwise direction with major axis in
second and fourth quadrants is displayed on the screen .The peak Y-deflection is at 10
divs and its interception with Y axis is at 6 divs .Evaluate the phase difference between
the input signal is?
(d) Explain the principle of storage oscilloscope .How does the digital storage CO1
oscilloscope differs from the conventional oscilloscope .what are the advantages of
each?
OR
(e) The X deflection plates in a CRT are 10mm apart and 50 mm long .The centre of the CO1
plates is 40 cm from the screen .The accelerating voltage is 6000 volts. Find the RMS
value of the sinusoidal voltage applied to the X deflection plates if the length of the
trace obtained on the screen is 20cm. Find also the electrostatic deflection sensitivity of
the above CRT?
Arm AB Z1=100 angle 30 ohms, arm BC Z2=50 angle0ohms, arm AD Z3=200 angle -
90 OHMS PURELY CAPACITIVE and arm CD Z4=100 angle 30 ohms. Determine
whether it Is possible to balance the bridge under above condition.
(b) Compare and contrast the Schering bridge and the High Voltage Schering bridge? CO2
(c) Draw the circuit diagram of Maxwell’s bridge. Explain its operation and derive the CO2
equation for unknown variables
(d) Branch AB is an inductive resistor, branch BC and ED are variable resistor, branch CD CO2
and DA are non- reactive resistors of 400 ohms each and branch CE is a Condenser of
2 µ F Capacitance. The supply is connected to A and C and the detector to B &E.
Balance is obtained when the resistance of BC is 400 ohms and that of ED is 500
ohms. Determine the resistance and inductance of AB. Identify the bridge and mention
its advantages?
