GUIDELINES FOR PALNNING OF POWER & TRANSFORMERS AND

SWITCHGEARS AT MAIN RECEIVING STATIONS

1. A case has come to notice wherein planning team has opined that "Power
transformer is to be considered as "SpI item of work".

2. MES is responsible for the provision of electric supply to defence establishments

as per Chapter 60 of SoA 2022. Main Receiving Stations of MES receive bulk electric
supply from State Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) at 11 KV or 33 KV or 66 KV or
132 KV. MES steps down this High/Extra High Voltage to 415V (3 Phase)/
240V (1 Phase) for distribution to accommodations.

3. Wherever MES is receiving Electrical Supply at 33 KV and above and stepping

it down to 11 KV, minimum two step down power transformers alongwith connected
switchgear and bus coupler on secondary side shall be planned, so that the electric
supply to the station is not affected during the routine maintenance of either of power
transformer and even during the unforeseen event of breakdown of either of power
transformer. The capacity of such transformers should be similar to meet electricity
requirement of the entire station.

4. In the stations, wherein the total electrical load is dependent on one power
transformer of 33/11 KV or 66/11 KV or 132/11KV, necessary work services be initiated
on priority as authorised work to adhere to the above guidelines to avoid interruption of
electric supplies for the whole station in the case of maintenance/break down of such
single power transformer.
