Directions: The following are activities for exploring each stage of group development with the members of
your team. Choose one or two games you would like to perform. After playing each game, identify which stage
of team development best describes your group is in.
“COMMONALITIES”
Begin with partners for this activity. You and your partner need to identify three unique items that you
have in common. Try to dig deeper for these items. For example, you might discover that both of you like
dogs, but under closer examination, you may also discover that you like the same breed of dog. You may
discover that you both enjoy reading and later discover that you have read the same book or perhaps enjoy the
same author. After identifying three attributes you have in common, partners raise their hands and find another
group of two ready to form a group of four. Now, the challenge is to identify two items that you have in
common. Again look deeper to the items and do not use any of the attributes already identified. Finally, after
your group of four finds out what you have in common, you may raise your hands and find again another group
of four, for a total of eight. The goal for these eight is to find ONE unusual event, interest or activity that you
have in common. These groups of eight will now share the other groups what they have in common.

Instructions: Read the humorous story below. To which character can you mostly identify with?
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important
job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody
did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do
it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when
Nobody did what Anybody could have.
Underline the word that best describes the lesson for today.
