PATTERN NOTES
This tote is worked in pieces that are crocheted together. Colors are
changed using the tapestry method. Hold both colors throughout each row,
working over the strand not in use. When changing colors, work up to the
last stitch with the current color, and use the new color to complete the final
pull-through of the current color’s stitch.
TOTE
Side (make 2)
With CC2, ch 56.
Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and next 4 chs, [with CC1, hdc in next 5 chs,
with CC2, hdc in next 5 chs] to end, turn – 55 hdc.
Row 2: With CC2, ch 1, hdc in first 5 hdc, [with CC1, hdc in next 5 hdc, with
CC2, hdc in next 5 hdc] to end, turn.
Rows 3-4: Rep Row 2.
Row 5: With CC1, ch 1, hdc in first 5 hdc, [with CC2, hdc in next 5 hdc, with
CC1, hdc in next 5 hdc] to end, turn.
Rows 6-8: Rep Row 5.
Rows 9-12: Rep Row 2.
Rows 13-16: Rep Row 5.

SHAPE LOWER EDGE
Row 1: With CC1, ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc in next 3 hdc, [with CC2, hdc in next 5
hdc, with CC1, hdc in next 5 hdc] to last 10 hdc, with CC2, hdc in next 5 hdc,
with CC1, hdc in next 3 hdc, hdc2tog, turn – 2 sts dec’d, 53 sts rem.
Row 2: With CC1, ch 1, hdc2tog, work as established to last 2 hdc, hdc2tog,
turn – 2 sts dec’d, 51 sts rem.
Rows 3-4: Rep Row 2 – 47 sts rem.
Fasten off.
UPPER EDGING
Join CC2 to beg-ch edge.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch across.
Fasten off.
STRAP/GUSSET
With CC2, ch 220. Join with sl st to beg ch being careful not to twist.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, hdc in first 5 chs, with CC1, hdc in next 5 chs, [with CC2,

Rnd 3: With CC2, ch 1, [with CC2, hdc in next 5 hdc, with CC1, hdc in next 5
hdc] around, join with sl st to beg hdc, turn.
Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 2.
Rnd 5: With CC1, ch 1, [with CC1, hdc in next 5 hdc, with CC2, hdc in next 5
hdc] around, join with sl st to beg hdc, turn.
Rnd 6: With CC2, ch 1, [with CC2, hdc in next 5 hdc, with CC1, hdc in next 5
hdc] around, join with sl st to beg hdc, turn.
Rnds 7-8: Rep Rnds 5-6.
Fasten off CC1, cont with CC2.
EDGING
Align the join of the Strap/Gusset with the upper edge (beg-ch edge) of one
of the Sides.
Rnd 1: Holding the Strap and Side together with WS together, working
through both thicknesses, sc Strap to Side around 3 edges, sc evenly
around rem length of Strap, join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off.
Align the other Side to the other side of the Strap Gusset. Rep Rnd 1 as for
other side. Fasten off.
