Read the dialogue below.
Answer the following questions.
1. What do the two friends talk about in the presented
dialogue?
2. Do they have the same impression about the movie?
3. What words are used by Zedo to express his opinion?
4. What words are used by John to express his opinion?

On Using Expressions Appropriate to Situations

Remember that there are many ways you can express agreement and disagreement. There are special
words/expressions that clearly indicate the intention and their appropriateness to the situation. These words/
expressions can be formal or informal, but the situation dictates their specific functions.

Here are some examples of appropriate expressions used in each situation:

A. Agreement
1. Direct agreement
I agree…. You’re right… That’s true… That’s right….
2. Adverbs
Naturally Absolutely Definitely Of course…
3. Informal situations
Yeah... You can say that... That’s for sure... No doubt about that...
4. Reluctant to agree- the situation is unpleasant
I hate to say it but I agree…
I’m afraid I have to agree...
I hate to admit it but you’re right…
Perhaps you’re right...

B. Disagreement
1. Direct Disagreement
I disagree… I beg to disagree... No… I don’t think so...
2. Informal Situations
You must be kidding…
