Love: Lost & Concealed

Alex was a man of quiet resolve, his life defined by the

duties he had accepted long before his heart had a say.
His marriage was a product of tradition, built on respect
and companionship rather than passion. It was a life he
had resigned himself to, finding solace in the
predictability of his days. But beneath the surface of his
steady existence, there was a longing, an unspoken
desire for something more, something that would make
his heart beat faster, something that would bring color to
the muted palette of his life.

Then, like a sudden gust of wind that stirs the still waters
of a forgotten lake, Barika entered his world. She was
young, full of life, her spirit unencumbered by the weight
of the past or the expectations of others. Where Alex’s life
was a series of carefully laid plans, Barika lived with a
spontaneity that was both thrilling and terrifying to him.
She was like the first light of dawn, piercing through the
darkness, illuminating everything in its path. When their
eyes met for the first time, something within him shifted, a
connection formed so deep and immediate that it took his
breath away.

They didn’t need words to understand each other; their

souls spoke in a language that transcended the barriers of
age and circumstance. What started as casual
conversations soon blossomed into something far more
profound. They found themselves drawn to each other,
seeking out moments where they could be alone, away
from the prying eyes of the world. Their love was a secret
garden, hidden from view, where they could be their true
selves, free from the roles they played in their everyday
lives.

Together, they experienced life as if for the first time.

Every outing was a discovery, every shared glance a
promise of more to come. They reveled in each other’s
company, exploring the world with a sense of wonder
that neither had felt before. They shared their dreams,
weaving them together into a tapestry of possibilities,
imagining a future where they could be together without
the constraints that held them apart. In those moments,
they believed anything was possible, that love could
conquer all.

But life, as it often does, had other plans. Just as they

were beginning to hope that their dreams could become
reality, tragedy struck. Alex lost someone he had always
counted on, a loss that left a gaping wound in his life.
Shortly after, Barika faced her own sorrow, the death of a
loved one that shattered her world.
Their grief was a heavy burden, one that they struggled to
carry. With these losses came responsibilities that neither
could ignore—families that needed them, roles they could
not abandon.

The weight of these new obligations pressed down on

them, forcing them to make choices they never wanted to
make. The future they had dreamed of seemed to slip
further and further away, like sand through their fingers.
Their once frequent meetings became sporadic, their
conversations tinged with an unspoken sadness. The love
that had once burned so brightly began to flicker,
dimmed by the realities of life. It was easier, they
discovered, to distance themselves from each other, to
pretend that what they had shared was a fleeting moment
rather than a profound connection.

And so, they turned away from the love that had brought
them so much joy. They spoke harsh words, erected walls
of indifference, each pretending that they no longer
cared. It was a defense mechanism, a way to protect
themselves from the pain of what they had lost. But no
matter how much they tried to convince themselves
otherwise, the love they had shared could not be so easily
extinguished. It lived on, buried deep within their hearts,
a flame that refused to die out.
Each time they saw each other, the old feelings would
stir, their eyes betraying the emotions they tried so hard to
hide. They would exchange bitter words, but in the depths
of their hearts, they longed for the days when they could
be together without fear or guilt. They missed the way
they had made each other feel, the sense of completeness
that came from being together.

In the quiet moments, when the world was still and the
night was dark, they would think of each other. Alex
would lie awake, staring at the ceiling, memories of
Barika playing in his mind like an old, cherished film.
Barika would look out at the night sky, wondering if Alex
was thinking of her too. They both knew that their love,
though hidden and unspoken, was still there, as strong as
ever.

But they also knew that the life they had now, the
responsibilities they carried, could not be set aside. They
had made their choices, and those choices had led them
down different paths. And so, they continued on with their
lives, showing the world only their indifference, while
keeping their true feelings locked away. Yet, despite the
distance and the pretense, their love remained, a silent
testament to the bond they had once shared.
They would never admit it, not to each other and not to
themselves, but they both knew that no matter how much
time passed, no matter how much they tried to move on,
they would always carry a piece of each other in their
hearts. And in that unspoken truth, they found a
bittersweet comfort, knowing that their love, though
hidden and unfulfilled, would never truly fade.
