Objective: To make students understand the concept of mid-span floor slabs, structural
behavior of slabs, and techniques to increase spans in RCC system

Process / 1. Explain Flat Slab, flat slab with drop panel ,flat slab with column head , flat
Specifications slab with drop panel and column head with sketches
/ Instructions / 2. Explain Flat Plate with appropriate sketches
Description: 3. Write short note on Ribbed Slab and Waffle Slab with sketches
4. Explain single span band beam
5. Explain multiple span band beams.
6. Mention Span-Depth Ratio for all RCC floor systems
7. What is Punching Shear and how it is tackled in flat slabs
8. List down advantages and disadvantages of
a) Flat plate and flat slab
b) Ribbed and waffle slab
c) Band Beam slab

Expected Students will understand the concept, and structural behavior of RCC floor spans
Outcome: for Mid spans. They will be able to choose different types for floor slab systems as
per in their design requirement. Students will be able evaluate the reinforcement
details provided by structural consultant.
