Method Statement
Surface Preparation
1. Ensure that the substrate is cured, and the moisture content is below 5%
2. Use Captive Shot Blasting to prepare the surface.
3. Clean the whole surface well.
4. Repair cracks (If existed).
5. Substrate should have sufficient strength to receive the paint. Any defects in the substrate
like surface undulations, cracks, pin holes etc., should be rectified/filled (Epoxy filler-
Jotafloor Screed) before starting painting.
- Surface Preparation
- The concrete substrate should be at least 28 days old and should have a minimum
compressive strength of 25 Mpa or 3626 psi. The pull of strength of the substrate should
be 1.5 mpa or 218 psi.
- Ensure that the substrate is cured and the moisture content not exceed 4%
- applying any coating before this time will greatly increase the chance of the coating de-
bonding. The moisture content of the concrete should be checked prior to the
application of the coating and should not be greater than 5%. Concrete substrates
should be mechanically prepared to leave a clean, sound and dry base on which a
coating system can be applied. Clean – Free of oils, grease, dust, dirt, chemicals, loose
coating, curing compounds.
- Use Captive Shot Blasting, Triple desk machine, Diamond disc grinding and mechanical
hand tool to prepare the surface.
- smooth floor will not allow the epoxy to adhere well
- Sweep oí vacuum the whole surface well.

Laitance deposits are best removed by Planetary diamond disc grinder or by captive blasting followed by vacuum
cleaning to remove dust debris. For old concrete, Jotun technical team should visit the site and appropriate
surface preparation methodology should be recommended and that is to be followed.
Application
Application methods
The product can be applied by
The temperature of the substrate should be minimum 15 °C and at least 3 °C above the dew point of the air,
measured in the vicinity of the substrate. Good ventilation is usually required in confined areas to ensure proper
drying. The moisture content in the substrate should not exceed 4 % (by weight). The coating should not be
exposed to oil, chemicals or mechanical stress until fully cured.
This product should not be applied on to the surfaces which are known to, or likely to suffer from, rising
dampness, potential osmosis problems or have a relative humidity greater than 80% as measured in accordance
with BS 8203 Appendix A.
Component A should be thoroughly stirred before component B is mixed. Mix both the components using a slow
speed drill and mixing paddle for 2 minutes. The entire content should be poured on to a third container and
edges of the container should be scraped. Mix the material for an additional 20 seconds. The mixed material
should be given an induction time of 3 minutes before application. Do not add solvent thinners at any time.

This is a two-component product supplied as the base (Comp A) and the hardener (Comp B). Part mixing of
these components is still not acceptable and will affect both performance and appearance of the finished floor.
Comp A consists of light weight silica particles which floats on the surface. Before adding Comp B ( Harderner)
into comp A, these aggregates needs to be uniformly dispersed by using a slow speed mechanical agitator for a
period of 2 mins. Soon afterwards, add comp B and continue mixing for further 1 minute until a homogenous
mixture is obtained.

If required Jotafloor Non Slip Aggregrate can be used with Jotafloor Topcoat, Jotafloor Coating and Jotafloor SL
Universal. (Advice should be sought from your local Jotun office regarding application techniques as these vary
slightly from product to product).
Jotafloor Non Slip Aggregate is cast on to the wet first coat of the Jotafloor material until the whole surface is
covered. Distribute the product from a container eg. distribution sieve, that will allow the aggregate to fall
directly onto the wet coating.
Once the first coat has dried, remove the excess aggregate from the surface by vacuum or sweeping. The
aggregate can be reused if clean.

The product can be applied by
The temperature of the substrate should be minimum 10 °C and at least 3 °C above the dew point of the air,
measured in the vicinity of the substrate.
For vertical concrete or application on other substrates, please contact your Jotun sales representative
NO PART MIXING.
Use a slow speed drill and mixing paddle.
The temperature of base and curing agent is recommended to be 18 °C or higher when the paint is mixed.
Part mixing of these components is not acceptable and will affect both performance and appearance of the
finished floor.
Mixing should be carried out using a heavy duty, slow-speed drill with appropriate mixing paddle attachment.
The individual components should be thoroughly stirred to disperse any settlement, then the Comp A and Comp
B packs should be mixed together. The entire contents of the hardener (B) container should be added to the
base (A) and mixed together for two minutes until a homogeneous mix is obtained. When a homogenous state
has been achieved split the mixed paint in to two separate containers and continue mixing both portions of the
mix for a further 2 minutes.

9. CLASSIFICATIONS
The following information is designed to help put these test results into context. Flame Spread Index and
Smoke Developed Index results from an ASTM E84 test are often used by regulatory agencies to approve
materials for various applications. For example, the International Building Code 2015, Section 803.1.1
requires that:
Interior wall and ceiling finish materials shall be classified in accordance with ASTM E84 or UL 723-10th Ed.
2008. Such interior finish materials shall be grouped in the following classes in accordance with their flame
spread and smoke-developed indexes.
Note that the above example is the IBC requirement for interior wall and ceiling finishes only; your
application may be different.
