After the end of the World War II, Japan surrendered South Korea to the American forces
creating an independent democratic state known as The Republic of South Korea. United
states and later Japan invested money to help South Korea industrialise and use modern
technology.

Stages in South Korea’s industrialisation

Stage 1: Reduce the need to import products. Invest in local industries like electricity
generation, oil refining, fertilizers, cement, steel manufacture and chemical industries.
