What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is to take someone’s work or
words and use them as your own, without
giving credit. It can be unintentional, and
is not always done with bad intent.

TIPS to avoid it in the future:


One way to use someone’s work while still

put their words into your own words, without
an in-text citation. You still need to include a
quote at the end of your writing though!

There are four main types of plagiarism. They are direct plagiarism, self
plagiarism, mosaic plagiarism and accidental plagiarism.

Not avoiding plagiarism can lead to serious


consequences if you are a student. Some
consequences are a failing grade, suspension
and sometimes expulsion, even if it is
unintentional.

Examples and non-examples of plagiarism


Example:
Original source - Thanksgiving is a time for family, food,
and togetherness.
Plagiarized version - A great time for family, food, and
togetherness is Thanksgiving.
Non-example: According to ______, “Thanksgiving is a
time for family, food, and togetherness.”

Summary
To summarize, Plagiarism is taking
someones else’e work and not giving
credit. You can avoid it by paraphrasing,
quoting correctly and always citing your
sources. It is important to do so
because it can avoid consequences such
as failing, suspension, or expulsion,
depending on the severity. 2
