As a part of state level Sury Namaksar abhiyan, On December 13, 2023,
Government Polytechnic Jamnagar organized a Surya Namaskar competition and
practice session, promoting physical and mental well-being among students and staff.
Surya Namaskar, also known as Sun Salutation, is a series of yoga poses that offer a
holistic approach to fitness.
Shri R. S. Oza, event coordinator has started the event. He gave information
about state level Sury Namaskar abhiyna and Sury Namaskar Competition. He
motivated students to participate in the event with great zeal.
Principal Shri H. J. Baldaniya has explained the need and importance of
physical fitness in recent time. He lucidly explained the importance of Yoga,
Pranayam and Sury Namaskar.

Warm-up exercises under the guidance of Sury Namaskar trainer faculty Shri
A. M. Galani.
Shri A. M. Galani explained the steps of Surya Namaskar along with Surya
namaskar shloks and proper breathings. Surya Namaskar is a set of asanas in
combination of 12 steps. These steps comprise 8 asanas and 4 asanas are repeated. All
the 12 steps done in proper sequence to complete the process of one round of Surya
Namaskar.
He performed Surya Namaskar and gave practice to students and staff
members. Around 170 students and staff members have participated in the practice
session of Surya Namaskar.
Principal Shri H. J. Baldaniyasir has motivated students by performing some
yoga.
After practice session, Surya namaskar competition held for students. Total 59
students participated in the competition under the guidance of faculty members.
In addition to the competition, there were interactive sessions where
participants could ask questions, seek advice on improving their yoga practice, and
learn about the significance of each pose in Surya Namaskar.
The Surya Namaskar competition and practice session at Government
Polytechnic Jamnagar was a resounding success. It not only promoted physical fitness
but also encouraged a sense of community and well-being among the participants. The
event served as a reminder of the importance of incorporating yoga into our daily lives
for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
