About
The University
The University of Allahabad, often referred to as the "Oxford of the East," is one of the
oldest and most prestigious universities in India. Established on 23rd September, 1887 by
Act XVIII, the University of Allahabad holds an esteemed position in the heart of the
history of Indian education. The foundation of the University was laid down by Sir William
Muir, the then Lt. Governor of United Provinces. With the promulgation of the University
of Allahabad Act in 1921, the Muir Central College was merged with the University.
Recognized as a 'premier institution' by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1992, the
University regained its status of Central University in 2005 and was also declared
Institution of National Importance. Located in the city of Prayagraj, it is celebrated for its
vibrant academic environment, diverse cultural traditions, and iconic architecture.
The University has birthed numerous luminaries, including former Presidents of India,
Bharat Ratna awardees, and renowned writers, scientists, and jurists. Dr. Zakir Hussain,
former President of India; Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma, former President of India; Shri V.P
Singh, former Prime Minister of India; Shri Chandra Shekhar, former Prime Minister of
India; Shri Ranganath Misra, former CJI; Justice Vikram Nath (sitting, Supreme Court);
Govindh Ballabh Pant, former CM of UP; Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya, founder of BHU; and
others are some of the prominent alumni of university. Furthermore, it has also produced
renowned writers and poets, including Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Mahadevi Verma,
Shri S.R Faruqui, Shri Bhagwati Charan Verma and Shri Doodhnath Singh, whose
contributions to literature are celebrated worldwide. Our University envisions itself as a
global hub of knowledge and academic brilliance. The motto itself reads 'Quot Rami Tot
Arbores' (As Many Branches, So Many Trees), inspiring its students to cultivate diverse
academic disciplines. The University of Allahabad continues to inspire global excellence in

About
The Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law, University of Allahabad, stands as one of the oldest and most
distinguished law schools in India, tracing its origins back to the 19th century. Known for
its rich legacy, the faculty has contributed to the evolution of legal education in the country.
Initially housed in the historic Muir College until 1872, the Law Department moved to its
dedicated premises in 1910. This building, renowned for its architectural grandeur, was
situated adjacent to the iconic Senate Hall. As legal education expanded, the growing need
for a more extensive library and modern teaching facilities led to the construction of a new
building in 1965, marking another milestone in the faculty’s illustrious history.
The faculty proudly boasts an illustrious lineage of alumni who have shaped the Indian
legal and judicial landscape. Among them are several eminent legal luminaries, including
Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, Dr. Kailash Nath Katju, and Justice Wali Ullah, who earned their
LL.D. degrees as regular candidates. Notably, the Faculty has produced numerous Chief
Justices of India, including Justice Ranganath Mishra, Justice K.N. Singh, Justice V.N.
Khare, Justice R.S. Pathak, Justice M.H. Beg, Justice J.S. Verma, and Justice Mohammad
Hidayatullah. The alumni roster also includes Justice Vashishtha Bhargava, former Chief
Justice of the Allahabad High Court and Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Daya Saran
Sinha, former Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court and luminaries such as Shri Motilal
Nehru, a renowned barrister & activist, and Syed Wazir Hasan, a celebrated jurist & leader.
The Faculty of Law upholds its legacy of excellence through rigorous education blending
tradition and modernity. With a robust curriculum, practical training, and real-world
exposure, it prepares students for the legal profession. Emphasizing research and ethics, it
hosts workshops, moot courts, and lectures to foster academic and professional growth.

The Moot Court Society
Mooting is an essential skill any student of law wishes to hone. The Moot Court Society of
the Faculty of Law, University of Allahabad, is a dynamic and integral part of the
institution's academic and co-curricular activities. The Moot Court Society is an exclusive
student-run body which functions under the guidance of our exemplary professors and
convenor. Established with the vision of fostering advocacy skills and legal acumen among
students, the Society provides a platform for aspiring legal professionals to hone their
research, drafting, and oral advocacy skills. The Moot Court Society is responsible for
organizing all moot-related events, such as Intra-faculty and National Moot Court
Competitions, Workshops, Training sessions, Guest Lectures, and other important activities
which would help to nurture the students into bright skillful advocates of the future.
Through these activities, participants gain a hands-on understanding of courtroom
procedures, legal argumentation, and case analysis.
The Moot Court Society has also established two distinguished committees to aid the
students who would be participating in moot court competitions. These committees are
'Memorial Evaluation Committee' and 'Oral Advocacy Committee'. It is joined in by senior
and experienced students of the present and previous years society. These committees have
undertaken the task to support any queries or difficulties the new students may face, along
with providing essential workshops and dummy sessions to test their preparations.
Over the years, the Moot Court Society has been instrumental in preparing students to excel
in prestigious national and international moot court competitions. It also collaborates with
esteemed legal professionals, including judges, advocates, and academicians, to mentor and
guide students, ensuring they stay abreast of the latest legal developments and practices.
The Moot Court Society plays a pivotal role amidst the students of the Faculty.

prestigious National Moot Court Competition, University of Allahabad 2025 and coincide
with the grandeur of Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, a once-in-12-years and the world’s
biggest celebration of spirituality, culture, and the tradition. This year's moot proposition
revolves around Criminal Law and Human Rights, pressing contemporary issues that
challenge our legal and moral compass. This competition will provide an exceptional
platform for aspiring law students to showcase their legal acumen, advocacy skills, and
