Homework: Life Lessons
When we read novels, we learn about life through the actions of the
characters and the events of the story. The characters learn and change
throughout the story. Answer the following questions in full sentences:

•What has Bat learned so far?

•How has Bat changed throughout the story?

•What have you learned about life, family, friendship?

What has happened so far?


Plot Summary:
•Ch 23:
•Bat wakes up early one Tuesday morning and he wakes up Thor for his feeding.
•While he is feeding Thor, his eyes open! Bat is amazed and happy.
•Bat tells his mother, and she is happy because normally, Bat has di culty making ‘eye
contact’. This shows that Bat is changing.
•His mother tells him that you can tell a lot about a person from their eyes.
•Ch 24:
•Bat goes to school and nds out that he has gotten a reply from Dr. Jerry Dragoo. He is
very excited and wants to read the email right away.
•Mr. Grayson tells him he must wait until recess. Bat does NOT like waiting.
•Bat thinks Israel is making fun of him, and feels anxious and upset.
•Finally, at recess, he and Israel read Dr. Dragoo’s email together.
•Bat learns that although Dr. Dragoo understands Bat’s desire to keep Thor, skunks are wild
animals and not easy to keep as pets.

Why is Bat so moved by Thor’s
eyes opening?

said. “What do you think about that?”
