Assessment Details
Overview
This assessment takes the form of case study and requires you to examine the case study and analyse the
associated dataset, interpret, draw conclusion(s) and provide recommendation(s) based on your analysis via a
report to a business client. The case study is provided in Assessment Details and the dataset here
(https://rmit.instructure.com/courses/137996/files/39360918?wrap=1)
This assessment relates to the professional practice of business and/or data analysts, who perform data
visualisations and predictive modelling techniques in response to requests from a business client or internal
stakeholder. To complete this assessment task, you are required to demonstrate the ability in performing data
pre-processing, visualisations and predictive modelling. You are also required to demonstrate your ability to
communicate the outputs of visualisations and predictive analytics and deliver a report that can be used by
others to make responsive and evidence-based business decisions.
Case Study: IntelliAuto
Industry 4.0 has poised to modernise manufacturing sector ad boost the industrial competitiveness.
Specifically, it couples with emerging technology such as Internet of Things (IoT), automation and robotics, to

increase productivity and reduce costs and thus digitally transformed the manufacturing sector into the “smart
factory”. Although Industry 4.0 has great benefits, it also has significant impact on the manufacturing
workforce. Potentially it disrupts the manufacturing processes and also the future of manufacturing workforce
and leads to controversial debate such as fear of jobs being taken by robots, ethical choices between job
losses and profit, etc.
IntelliAuto is an automobile parts manufacturer with 5000 employees. The organisation has plan in place to
move towards a digital manufacturing factory in next 5 years. Although the digital plan is at its infant
stage, IntelliAuto wishes to study its full-time workforce by developing profile of employees that measures
factors such as income, job satisfaction, career progress, etc. The current aim is to better understand the
employees of the organisation. In addition, the study also helps to better prepare for negotiation with unions in
future when the organisation is in transition to digital manufacturing factory. Katrina de Jong, the Chief Human
Resource Officer, hires Datos Lab Corporation (DLC), a consulting firm, to survey IntelliAuto employees and
communicate the results.
A survey of a random sample of 1000 employees was conducted. As was the case in previous assessment,
you again play the role of Misha Toutou, a data analyst at DLC. Katrina has written to you another
email regarding her further requests and/or queries relating to the employee survey. Her email to you is
reproduced below.
To: Misha Toutou, Data Analyst, Datos Lab Corporation
From: Katrina de Jong, Chief Human Resource Officer
Subject: IntelliAuto Employee Survey – Business Analytics
Dear Misha,
Thank you for your previous report and analysis. I would like you to perform further analysis and compile the
findings in a new report for me. Please see below my further requests.
1. Using ggplot2 package can you present at least 5 figures that have the high association with the age?
2. Employee churn is expensive for companies. When an employee leaves he/she takes his experience with
them. Recruiting new employees are expensive and time consuming. Therefore, could you generate a
regression model with work years as the dependent variable? In other words can you create a model to
predict the work years among the staff?
3. We need to plan ahead for engagement and cooperation among staff and also the transition into digital
manufacturing. It would be ideal if there is some sort of approach to predict this. Therefore, could you
predict the engagement activities among the staff?
4. Develop a predictive model using logistic regression, where the dependent variable indicates whether an
employee has been employed for more than 15 years.
Again, based on discuss your analysis and provide your recommendation(s).
I look forward to receiving your report in four weeks’ time.
