1 Introduction
1.1 Training content
This training shows the basic drive commissioning of a SINAMICS S120 in TIA
Portal Startdrive.
The drive is added to a project, configured using Detection of the device
configuration, operated from the Control panel and optimized with One Button
Tuning.

In this exercise, the SINAMICS S120 is connected and configured via ethernet over
the PROFINET interface.
To be able to make an online connection with the drive unit, the ethernet address
of the drive unit in the project must match the ethernet address in the real drive
unit.
• In the “Device view”, double-click the PROFINET interface.
• In the inspector view “PROFINET interface”, under “Properties”, select
“Ethernet addresses”
• Modify the IP address of the drive device in the project to:
IP address: 192.168.111.120
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

• In the case that a popup window appears, fill out the interface settings:
Type of the PG/PC interface: PN/IE
PG/PC interface: Intel® PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adapter <3>
Connection to interface/subnet Direct at slot ‘CU X150’
• Click the “Start search” icon
→ The device with “Device type” S120 CU320-2 PN and “Address”
192.168.111.120 is found and selected.
• Click the “Go online” icon and click “Yes” in the popup window to accept these
setting as default for the PG/PC interface

• The function “Detection of the device configuration” finds all the online
components that are connected to the control unit via Drive-CLiQ and shows
them in a popup window.
You can tick the box “LED flashing” to visually identify the respective
components in the drive unit.
• Notice that the operating mode is preset to “High dynamic (servo)”.
If necessary, this operating mode can be changed later in the project.
• Click the “Create” icon to add all these components in the offline project
configuration.
→ This action does not configure the real drive unit. You will have to perform a
project configuration download to configure the connected device.

The download conditions are checked and a “Load preview” popup window
appears.
• Check the info in the popup window and keep the setting “Save
parameterization retentively”
• Click the “Load” icon to accept and close the window
In the “Download to device” popup window, you can follow up the download
progress.
With this download, the project configuration and parameter settings are
transferred to the drive unit.
Now the real drive unit is configured and the drive objects can be operated.

Activating and operating the Startdrive Control panel can apply power to
system components and move real hardware, like motors and machine
parts !
WARNING
When the Startdrive Control panel is active, a number of start, stop and
enable signals are bypassed by the Control panel and will not react to field
or field bus signals !
This function may only be used under observance of the relevant safety notes.
Failure to observe these safety notes may result in personal injury or material
damage.
