Course Policy for Math 2314, Calculus & Analytical Geometry III (Fall 2011)
Instructor: Prof Waldron, [email protected] Class: Sec 002, Tu-Th, 7:309:20 p.m. Help: 1 hr before class. Text: University Calculus, Hass et.al, 2007. Graphing Calculator: TI-89 required. Can lease from Math Lab for $25. MyMathLab (MML): Optional. Log on at http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/ - Course ID is waldron54804. Good source for practice and learning. Homework problems are similar to assigned textbook homework. OCCC Email &Angel: Mandatory use of OCCC email. (Example: [email protected]). I will only email to your OCCC email account. Log on to Angel at http://online.occc.edu/default.asp for grades, solutions, and announcements. Note: OCCC email does not copy to Angel so please frequently check your OCCC email.. OCCC Math Lab Hours: Mon-Thurs 7 a.m. 10 p.m.; Fri/Sat 8 a.m. 4 p.m. Grading Criteria. 5 Module Tests @ 100 points each.. 500 points. At the end of each module there will be a review class and then a 100 point test. Each test primarily covers new material but may require or include previous concepts. The assigned homework is the basis for all quiz and test questions. There are no test makeups since each test is given over a 3-4 day window in the OCCC Testing Center or the last day of class. A zero grade will be given if a test is missed. Class Work Points100 points. Every Thursday, at my discretion, you will either turn in problems listed in Homework Assignments for the section(s) covered the previous week or take a quiz over the same material in class. Each Class Work assessment counts 10 points and the highest 10 scores out of 12 give total Class Work points. Notice that section homework 12.9, 11.6, and 13.8 will be collected on the Tuesdays indicated on the Class Schedule, after the first three block tests. These three sections will be covered in class but not tested on the Module Tests. Grading of homework will be based on completeness and work steps/answers shown on the problems I choose to grade (primarily evens). There is no makeup for missing a class quiz or homework turn-in; a low-score drop of zero will result. Total Course Points 600 points. Letter Grade Point Cutoffs are A: 537, B: 477, C: 417, D: 357
Class Schedule
Preparation/Attendance/Participation. Use the Class Schedule to the right to study the assigned material before class. Study the section example problems carefully and come to class with questions. Attend all classes and be ready to answer questions or present homework on the board. You are responsible for all class information, regardless of attendance. My impression of your class participation and attendance could raise or lower your grade if your composite score lies on a borderline. Tests. Take the 1st four module tests in the OCCC Testing Center (TC) during the dates shown on the Class Schedule. Do not miss class to take a test! Testing Center hours are Mon-Thurs 8 a.m.9:30 p.m. and Fri-Sat 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Go to http://www.occc.edu/ACS/Student_Guidelines.html st and read the Test Center Procedures before the1 test. The tests are about 90 minutes long and it is up to you to arrive early enough to finish before the TC closes. Distribution of exams ends 1 hour before closing.

Course Hints. Make sure you understand the mathematical methods and then work a variety of problems to ingrain the material. Insure you are writing down the proper steps and getting the correct answers. Clarify any misunderstandings as soon as possible. Please email Prof Waldron or visit with him for help. For maximum understanding, review concepts repetitively and study and work homework problems steadily throughout the week rather than studying 1 or 2 times a week only. Work with a friend or study group. DONT FALL BEHIND. Academic Dishonesty. Cheating on graded assignments will not be tolerated and may result in a zero for the assignment or more severe action, including becoming a permanent part of your academic record. See the OCCC Student Handbook, V, Academic Integrity Policy and Student Disciplinary Procedures at. http://www.occc.edu/handbook.html Do not collaborate extensively or copy homework from another student as I will return such work with a grade of 0. Using the Internet, the Math Lab solution manuals or other sources to obtain solutions for even homework problems is also prohibited.
