Power Management
Power Management
SaCoSone
2 Description
The binary outputs at SACOS are designed as floating contacts (max. 230V AC, 2A). Connected inductivities have to be supplied with a self-induction recuperation diode at the coil. Analogue inputs at SACOS are passive, galvanically non-isolated 4-20mA inputs. Analogue outputs from SACOS are active, galvanically isolated 4-20mA outputs. Used terms in this description: LOP = local operating panel (at the engine, SACOS-scope of supply) ROP = remote operating panel (at the interface cabinet, SACOS-scope of supply)

Speed control:
MSB -> SACOS
Increase external (NO) The synchronisation / load control device requests an engine speed/load increase by closing this contact. The request is either sent directly from MSB (MSB local mode) or the PMS signal is looped through by MSB (MSB remote mode). It is 1.5 rpm/sec (value to be adjusted during commissioning).

Decrease external (NO) The synchronisation / load control device requests an engine speed / load decrease by closing the contact. The request is either sent directly from MSB (MSB-local mode) or the PMS signal is looped through by MSB (MSB-remote mode). It is 1.5 rpm/sec (value to be adjusted during commissioning). Actual active generator power (4..20mA) SACOS needs this signal for speed control in diesel mode and especially in gas mode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Generator control:
SACOS -> MSB
Release synchronisation (= ready to synchronise) (NO) This contact is closed if the engine speed exceeds 90% of the nominal speed and the Generator Breaker Closed contact is open. Engine standstill (NO) Engine speed < 20 rpm

This signal is only active if any prealarms occur, which could be followed by a load reduction request or auto shutdown; e.g. engine lube oil pressure low, main bearing temperature high.... PMS should stop the engine and start another one. Load reduction request (NO) For some engine conditions (e.g. exhaust gas temperature high,), SACOS requests a load reduction to 60% of nominal load (-> refer to modbus list and list of measuring and control devices for detailed information). This load reduction is not done by SACOS itself.

As long as this contact is open, Request Diesel Mode is selected automatically. Ready for gas operation (NO) For switchover to gas by SACOS (from LOP or ROP)(incl. LD-compressor check,)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Change-over to diesel active (for indication) (NO) This signal is active during an automatic or an operational change-over. It is not active during a quick change-over. Quick change-over to diesel active (for indication) (NO) This signal is active during a quick change-over. Possible reasons for QCO -> please refer to list of measuring and control devices. This signal is important, e.g., for cargo compressors to switch to bypass mode.

Engine running in backup mode (NO) Only in case of an emergency! Engine should run for a maximum of 10 hours in backup mode; the pilot fuel oil nozzles will be damaged if they run without being cooled.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standby
PMS -> SACOS
Request for standby (NO) This signal has to be activated as long as standby is requested.

When standby mode has been terminated by SACOS, the signal Standby active is deactivated and it is not possible to set the engine back to standby right away. It must run once (reaching n>200 rpm) before it can be switched back into standby mode. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blackout
PMS -> SACOS
Blackout (NO) In case of a blackout, this contact has to be closed. Upon activation of this signal, engine control (buffered by the UPS) will start a timer of 60 minutes. During these 60 minutes the engine can be started locally at the LOP, at the ROP or by the PMS closing the Engine Start Request contact (in case the PMS has the control authority). As long as this Blackout contact is closed, the engine lubrication pressure is not monitored and the engine is allowed to start without prelubrication pressure. Only some start blockings (blocking from MSB, auto shutdown active, emergency stop active, turning gear engaged) are still valid. This is only allowed if the engine has been in standby or running before the blackout occurred. After 60 minutes (or if the UPS fails before 60 minutes) the engine will only start after one minute of prelubrication and after the engine has been turned successfully (by slow-turn or, in case of slow-turn failure, manually) (-> normal start procedure).
