ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First of all, we would like to thank our course teacher, Ms. Sumbul Raees for giving us this

project about maintaining our environment. For guiding us throughout this project and for

encouraging us to complete it in the given time. . This report has helped us in learning much

about the environment and the importance of protecting it and nurturing it to grow. It also taught

us of not only being a good student but also a good human being. Last but not least, we would

like to express our gratitude to our friends and respondents for the support and willingness to

help us on fulfilling the questions regarding the projects.

Yours Sincerely
PROJECT SUMMARY

3. PLANNING

3.1 Group Goals & Objectives

 Our campaign started when we first told people close to us about our project and the

opportunity we had received to help the next generation.

 We then planned on taking this campaign a few steps further by creating an Instagram

page, @keep_land_green_2023.

 The goal was to highlight the importance of plantation to our followers.

 The idea was to create awareness through social media about plantation and its benefits.

Educate our followers the right way to dig up dirt and plant plants.

 Also to educate the havoc deforestation wreaks on the environment, so that they too

would take initiative to save our environment for future generations.

3.2 Process & Steps

 Campaign on social media using our Instagram handle and various hashtags to increase

our reach.

 We posted various posts regarding plantation, deforestation and their benefits and

devastation respectively.

 Plantation drive

 We split in 2 groups of threes to plant seeds as part of our plantation drive.

 We planted seeds in two different locations, the first group planted at a garden outside a

school (with their permission of course) near Iqra University.

 The second location at a small clearing near Millennium Mall.

4. IMPLEMENTATION

4.1 Our project is the 15th sustainable development goal (SDG) which is Plantation. We began

this project by creating an Instagram page named Keep Land Green (KLG) (handle:

keep_land_green_2023). We made a post about how deforestation is wrong for the environment

and the ecosystem and stated how one and half acre of forest is cut down every second

(worldwide). To reach a wider audience properly, we also used hashtags like

#savethenvironment, #savetrees and #stopdeforestation.

We also made educational posts about the importance and benefits of trees and also about

planting trees the right way as many people plant trees the wrong way and that stunts the growth

of trees and plants.

4.2 While we were planting seeds, our activities attracted the curiosities of a few people and they

came up to us and asked what we were doing so we told them about our project.

We explained to them that we were students of Iqra University and we’re planting trees as part of

our plantation drive so that people and animals alike can benefit from them in form of food,

shelter and cleaner fresher air. We explained to them the benefits of plantation and planting trees.

We also educated them about the damage deforestation or cutting of trees causes to the

surrounding ecosystem and the loss of biodiversity and the environment as a whole.

We asked them to forward this deed whenever they could and to try working, to better the

environment and the society as a Pakistani citizen and as a fellow human being.
Hopefully through our activities, we made them aware of the dangers we as a country and human

beings face with the decreasing number of plants and trees.

What made our project unique and creative is the bonding and understanding that gelled us

together and through the collaborative efforts we completed this project and raised awareness

among our peers and other strangers alike.

5. OUTCOMES

Trees are a necessity for the survival of the human and without them, it will be difficult to

sustain life on earth. Trees plays a vital role in the evolution of human beings by fulfilling their

need for food, shelter and clothes. It is because of the few major forests that we can fight the

curse of pollution and global warming. Planting more trees will always be beneficial for us and

the ecosystem. Some of the outcomes include:

5.1 Saving Future Generation

Creating awareness about the importance of planting trees among the students as they’re the

future generation. School’s management can also take steps to add a class based on

environmental awareness and encourage students to plant trees in their home and school. Start

planting trees around your surroundings and make your environment pleasant for you and your

future generation.

Stress Reduction

Trees are also very helpful for our health. In one study, we researched about an experiment about

stress reduction in humans. In the experiment, participants walked in a forest and urban

environment at the same time. It was found that those participants walking in a forest had lower
blood pressure, cortisol's levels, pulse rates, and sympathetic nervous system activity (related to

stress), while increasing their parasympathetic nervous system and activity (related to

relaxation).

Reduction of CO2 in air

Trees play a major role in reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere so we can also end pollution

through it. Since plants take in CO2 during the process called photosynthesis and release the

oxygen in the air so we can breathe. Planting more trees should definitely reduce the level of

CO2. For reference, combined with oceans, the terrestrial biosphere including plants and trees

already remove about 45% of the CO2 emitted by human activities each year.

5.2 Encouragements for Outdoor activities

Trees and woodland areas can bring people in by using it as a landmark place within

neighbourhoods and encourage pride amongst people within that community. Moreover, allow

people for doing activities such as walking or birdwatching. In addition, they give children

somewhere to play and feel a sense of adventure. By planting trees in two separate communities,

we were able to play a small part in bettering the environment. We felt a sense of responsibility.

5.3 CHALLENGES DURING PLANTATION

The most common challenge that our group faced is the location of planting tree(s) in a suitable

location, because there are many places in which owners of parks do not allow plantation

activities despite having less plants and trees in it. Other problems were finding a suitable type of

soil to plant tree as some soils destroy plants. Also the right place so the seedlings would be able

to absorb sunlight and not be left in the shadows. Other problems included making sure there
weren’t any pests around in the area or other man made things that would harm the young

seedlings.

Another challenge was that we felt a bit sad we couldn’t do more for the surrounding

environment. An old man saw our work and advised us to not feel bad and encouraged us that

every good deed starts small. He inspired us to continue working for a better future nd

environment. That lightened us up and put a smile on our face.

6. LESSONS LEARNED

There are many lessons that we can learn during tree plantation some are given below;

6.1

Patience

The very important lesson that we can learn during plantation is patience. We must be patient in

our life during every stressful situation especially while working in the nature. Gardening and

planting trees and plants are slow and patient work but very rewarding in the end.

Self-Healing

Another lesson that we can learn during plantation is self-healing. Whether from accident or

disease, a tree has the ability to heal itself. When injured, tree cells will flow around a wound,

creating a knot. By changing course, the cells within the wood grain can continue to supply

nutrients and water to other parts of the tree, rather than simply hitting a dead end and cutting off

all supplies to the rest of the tree. So, we must be willing to adapt in order to heal ourselves.
Freedom

In the wild, there are no prescribed locations for a seed to germinate or a root to sprout. Trees

will grow wherever conditions are best for them. When you begin to live unbound, you begin to

experience everything that the world has to offer. Never be afraid of these new experiences;

change can be good.

Take care of yourself first

Trees teach us that in order to take care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first. Trees

take care of themselves and hence they are able to offer so much to others like life sustaining

oxygen, food, resources or shelter. If a tree does not take care of itself, for instance, if it does not

take in water or sunlight then it won’t be healthy or beautiful enough to offer anything of value

to others.

6.2 IMPORTANCE OF PLANTATION

Planting a tree is a good habit that makes our nature awesome. We need to plant trees more and

more to get rid of the greenhouse and global warming threat. Planting more trees help to filter

out harmful toxic gases of our atmosphere and helps to facilitate better health. It also prevents

from the loss of biodiversity. Tree plantation are important as they provide valuable resources in

our daily life as well. It is time for us to acknowledge the importance of plantation for

maintaining our rich diversity.

6.3 FINAL THOUGHTS

There are many environmental benefits of planting a tree. Strategically planting trees around

your home can have tremendous benefits on the environment. Not only will you help restore life

quality in your community, contribute to the environment and help fight climate change, but you

will also set an example. Therefore, planting a beautiful tree is always a good idea.
